1) Acne is basically another word for clogged pore. While skin sheds its cells, not all of the dead skin cells flake away. Sometimes the get stuck on the skin when they mix with your skin’s oils. Whiteheads: Whiteheads are a result when a pore is completely blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, causing a white appearance on the surface. Whiteheads are normally quicker in life cycle than blackheads.

Blackheads: Blackheads are a result when a pore is only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface. The black color is not caused by dirt. Rather, it is the skin's own pigment, melanin, reacting with the oxygen in the air. A blackhead tends to be a stable structure, and can often take a long time to clear.

Papules: Papules are inflamed, red, tender bumps with no head. Do not squeeze a papule. It will do no good, and may exacerbate scarring.

Pustules: A pustule is inflamed, and appears as a red circle with a white or yellow center. Pustules are your garden variety zit.

Acne and Hygiene

Tip #1: Don’t over-wash. Since dirt is not causing your acne, excessive scrubbing and washing won’t make it go away. Try to limit yourself to two washings per day — anything more than that can leave your healthy skin dry, and your acne-prone areas irritated. Habitual over-washing, even with gentle cleansers, may also stimulate extra oil production, and that translates to more breakouts.

Tip #2: Skip harsh scrubs. It’s okay to exfoliate, but be sure to use a gentle skin cleanser with small, smooth grains. Avoid cleansers with almond or apricot shell fragments. They can irritate or even tear your skin and further aggravate your acne.

Tip #3: Say no to alcohol. If you use a toner, avoid products with high concentrations of isopropyl alcohol, or common rubbing alcohol. Alcohol is a strong astringent and strips the top layer of your skin, causing your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. The result? Dry, red skin — and possibly more blemishes.

Tip #4: Don’t squeeze or pick. Squeezing or picking your blemishes — with fingernails, pins or anything else — can force bacteria deeper into the skin, causing greater inflammation and infection. You’ll also increase the damage to the surrounding skin, so the blemish is more likely to leave a permanent acne scar.

Tip #5: Hands off! P. acnes (the bacteria that cause breakouts) are a normal resident of your skin. It becomes a bad neighbor when it gets trapped inside a hair follicle. Excessive touching of your face, including rubbing or even resting your chin in your hands, can drive bacteria into your pores — where it can begin its dirty work.

Tip #6: Work out, wash off. When you exercise, your movement generates heat. The clothing you wear and the equipment you use can also cause friction. Until you shower off, heat and moisture are trapped against your skin, creating an ideal breeding ground for the spread of bacteria. So whenever you can, shower off and use an acne fighting cleanser immediately after exercising.

How to Eliminate Acne?

Acne is caused by excessive moisture in the skin, but only if sebum production is high. Since you know this you had better prevent excessive water retention - by avoiding both the consumption of 'dirty' protein and the occasional salt/spices binge.

Extreme water retention is called edema. In skin-edema the skin contains too much water - increasing the water-pressure in the skin. When water pressure is increased, sebum canals are pinched off. All persons with acne have at least mild facial edema, but not all persons with edema have acne, because if sebum production is low, pinching off sebum canals does not necessarily cause inflammations. If you have both facial edema and a high sebum production, you will definitely have acne. Many studies therefore found that facial edema is related to acne in fact, acne is very related to facial edema.

Because all foods contain protein, all cooked foods can cause acne, and salt / spices can also cause acne. So, even if you stop consuming the worst foods, you may still get acne. Can you imagine; you are doing the best you can, cutting out lots of acne-causing foods and you still get new pimples! That is extremely discouraging and then you probably lose faith in this diet eventually. To prevent this from happening, we need to apply a specific approach. Don't think it does not apply to you; doubts eventually destroy your determination too. So how can we eliminate these doubts? By seeing fast and clear results. And once you are 100% sure that this diet works for you too, you can start experimenting, since then nothing can make you lose faith in this diet anymore. You can then start experimenting with those foods that you love so much, to figure out how, and to what extend they can be included in your diet anyway. But to be able to do so, you need a safe haven, where you can return to every time after you got a new pimple by trying to include some more goodies in your diet.

2 Week Acne Diet

• You should maximally consume 100 gram (3.5oz.) fresh raw fish /-egg yolk a day. This because redundant protein can easily increase the blood-protein level, since blood protein level can fluctuate very much; from 100% (alanine) up to 900% (cystine). A too high blood protein level can elevate the protein level in the true skin, making the skin temporarily retain more water, pinching off sebum canals. But if you intensively work out, you can consume much more 'clean' protein, since then the body very effectively utilizes extra protein.

• You should eat some raw Brazil nuts (only if shelled by hand), avocado or a few bites of the salad that is covered with sufficient olive oil after every time you have eaten some fruits / fresh juices. This to stabilize the blood sugar level.

• If you want to eat the fruits, salad and sashimi in one meal; first eat the fruits, then the salad and finally the sashimi, to prevent cramps / gasses / bloating.

• You should remain physically inactive for at least 1.5 hours after every time you have consumed some fresh raw fish or –egg yolk.

• Juices from pressed fruits (like orange juice) or from the juice extractor are perfectly fine to consume, but not shakes that you make by the use of a blender / mixer (especially when mixing / blending banana). This because the high rotation speed of the knives in the blender / mixer originates 'heat at a molecular level', due to friction. Somehow, this is originates acne- causing molecules in banana in particular.

• While on this sample diet you cannot use any topical or hormonal treatment (no Murrad, no Differin etc.).Because any of these can also aggravate acne. (Browse through the archives of on-line acne discussion boards)

You should be off all antibiotics during two weeks before you can start with the sample diet. This because antibiotics weaken your defense system, which can be dangerous when you are going to eat fresh raw egg yolks or fresh raw fish.

• You cannot use any moisturizer. Moisturizers contain chemicals that are absorbed in your skin to attract water, which may lead to an increased water-pressure in the true skin, which pinches off sebum canals, causing acne if also much sebum is produced. To protect your outer skin from dehydration you instead should use a fingertip of oil (that is low in vitamin E, since vit. E accelerates shedding of the skin) and spread that all over your face (that is still a bit moist) after you have cleaned it with a mild cleansing lotion.

• Don't clean your face with tap water, but with low-mineral bottled water. Chemicals in tap water can trigger allergic-like reactions that cause sebum canals to be pinched off. Excessive chloride and other minerals in tap water dehydrate the skin, thus causing dry flaky patches on the face. You don't need to buy a special water sprayer for your face; you can use a plant sprayer filled with low-mineral bottled water, of course.

• You need to keep in mind that it is easy to consume too little food while on this diet. If you are experiencing a lack of energy, you need to consume more fresh juices instead of whole fruits, and then you also better add some oil and sugar to these juices.

Coenzyme A and Acne

Coenzyme A is the central molecule in our metabolism; it combines acetate that comes from carbohydrates, protein, and fat metabolism to form Acetyl-Coenzyme A, the only molecule that the mitochondria use to produce energy through Krebs cycle. Also fat synthesis - including steroidal hormones - starts with Acetyl Coenzyme A. Acetyl choline the neurotransmitter of all para-sympathetic nervous system can not be synthesised without acetyl-coenzyme A.

Coenzyme A is formed by stepwise union of Cysteine (amino acid), ATP

(high energy molecule), and Pantothenate (Vitamin B5). ATP is provided by metabolism, Cysteine if not present in food can be derived from Methionine (amino acid), and Vitamin B5 can be only provided by food.

The body deals with the high demand of an essential nutrient in such a way to maintain the functionally more important reactions, while at the same time slowing down the less important ones (or why a certain disease is debilitating?).

In our case, where Coenzyme A is a pivotal molecule in at least 70 metabolic pathways, the body chooses to utilize Coenzyme A and excess fats to synthesize sex hormones, leaving excess fats unmetabolized. Were there extra amounts of Coenzyme A, the body would metabolize the excess fat in the sebaceous glands.

Now we can easily understand that acne is due to unmetabolized fat that is accumulated in the sebaceous glands, due to insufficient amounts of Coenzyme A, i.e., acne is due to slow metabolism of excess fat.

Why It Is Hormones Biosynthesis and Not Androgen Effect

The reason acne first erupts at puberty is not effects of hormones, but rather metabolic, it is secondary to deployment of a substantial amount of coenzyme A to the purpose of synthesis of sex hormones. In the following examples we may see that, it is not the androgen that is the cause of acne:

• Eunuchs (early castrated males) rarely exhibit acne, while normal adult males may exhibit adult acne

• Two groups of adolescent boys with the normal blood levels of androgens may exhibit different incidence of acne

• Stress related acne (prior to examination, tension, insomnia...etc)

is caused by increased synthesis of corticosteroids that the body secretes to combat stress. The same thing apply for adult acne of people who have not had acne as teenagers

• The premenstrual flare of acne patients due to increased levels of progesterone which is not an androgen

• Rapid decline in incidence of acne after puberty is due to cessation of need of increased sex hormones synthesis

• Biotin and Nicotinamide are important vitamins of lipid metabolism, and with vitamin B5 they may help cure acne, yet when they are used alone, they are far less effective in treating acne

• Frequently seen acne with those secreting tumors of the ovary, testis and adrenals, in people with variant ages

Acne Cure With Coenzyme A

The precursors of coenzyme A are ATP which is very abundant in the body of adolescent people, Cysteine which is non essential amino acid that can be supplied with food or derived from the essential amino acid Methionine, and Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) which is essentially supplied by food.

Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) supply to increase body production of coenzyme A has been recommended by Dr Lit-Hung Leung in high doses reaching 1000-1500 times its recommended daily intake which is 10 milligrams per day. The recommended dose is so high (10-15 grams/day), because vitamin B5 is a water soluble vitamin, i.e., with each heart beat the unused B5 molecules pass into the kidney to be excreted. It follows that Vitamin B5 should be present all the time to capture any free Cysteine.
