Do you think my acne will ever go away?

I think I eat too much sugar. Do you think if I eat only like 2 grams of sugar each day for 2 weeks, it will go away?

I wash my hands and face 3 times a day with soap...

Do you think i am going to have acne forever? Am I gonna get acne scars?

What do you suggest? What should i do?

Also will this ever go away? Do i have severe acne?1P

To my standard, the level of acne that you have is severe.

Please consult a dermatologist as soon as possible.

Do not follow any tips on the internet for now until you have been educated enough to truly understand the consequence.

it's quite severe.i agree with the person above,go see a dermatologist.don't start any clean and clear or neutrogena or oxy or anything on your skin.consult a dermo, and find out what's best for your skin.

I would not be washing your face with the same soap you wash your hands with. No way, no how. Although some people suggest that diet has a big role in their acne, I have not found that to be the case with mine. Limiting the sugar intake is a good idea for your health anyway, so I'd give that a try and see how your body responds. Everyone'e skin is different.

I would also recommend seeing a dermatologist, although I don't think your acne is at the 'severe' stage. It's better to get treatment ASAP to prevent lingering red marks/scarring down the line.

Good luck.

My family is way too poor to go to the dermatoligist.

I am feeling really depressed now seeing that people said it was severe.

I will update pics when I get home from school.

If I do nothing for next 2 weeks during Christmas break.

I want all the red things in my face gone soon.

heyyy i'm not like an expert but I would recommend drinking alot of water and getting oxy face wash (or some other cleanser with 10% benzoyl peroxide it seems like the most effective), its the best acne cleanser I've used so far and its like $5 at walgreens or rite aid... I don't think using normal soap is really recommended for acne

I'd also suggest a dermatologist or even primary care physician visit. In the interim, just use a gentle cleanser, maybe a thin layer of 2.5% Benzoyl peroxide like Neutrogena on the Spot (all over the face) and try your hardest not to pick at your skin. That can result in scarring.

Don't give up hope as there are soooo many treatment options. :) Do get that derm/doctor appointment soon.

Am I alone in thinking this wouldn't be classified as severe acne? Definitely moderate, since it looks like there's some scarring and pustules, etc. But I've definitely seen worse. Maybe a little more than moderate?

First off, don't wash your face 3x a day. Twice should be plenty enough. And use a cleanser, not soap. If you get oily throughout the day, just blot. There are tons of possible ways you could treat your acne. If you have one, try to get to your primary care physician -- they'll probably have some suggestions. Other than that, you should try some over the counter acne medications... there are TONS out there in the form of cleansers, moisturizers, spot treatments, medicated pads, etc. Read some reviews of the products beforehand though... and browse through these forums -- there's so much information here! Although it really can be a pain to sort through it all =/

I fixed the links to your images, so they're clickable now.

Judging from the pictures, it's moderate acne, moderate-severe at most. Have you tried any treatment at all so far?

Since you can't afford to visit a dermatologist, I suggest looking into a good cleanser and 2.5% BP. It shouldn't be too expensive. Also, washing your face with soap 3 times a day is too much, 2 times is sufficient (as said, I would replace the soap with a cleanser). Also, seriously limit (or better: eliminate) the sugar. If you consume a lot of dairy or soy products: limit them as much as possible. When it comes to food, there's many options. Have a look at the Nutrition and holistic health forum. Just make sure to use your common sense, if you follow everybody's advice there, you'll end up eating nothing but grape peels. Food is not your enemy, just pick the right ones.

Good luck!

Ah, I didn't see that you couldn't go to a derm. I echo AKL's suggestions 100%. :) Also, it's not severe, it's more like moderate.

Thanks guys. This is really boosting my confidence. Gonna go to school. Take a couple of tests.

I hope that most of my acne goes away in 2 1/2 weeks.

I think ill try that 2.5% you guys were talkig about? I haven't picked at my acne for a month.

Btw I have had acne from 5th grade till now in 9th grade.

I got acne cause I drank like Gatorade every day for a year. Also I ate a TON of sugar. Also I picked on my skin.

Do you think I will get acne scars? And is my acne permanent?

Thx

Raiders,

I have a son about your age. Have you spoken to your mom and dad about this? I am guessing one of your parents had acne when they were your age as acne is hereditary so they will understand.

We can't afford a dermatologist either but I took my son to our family doctor and he was put on antibiotics. It worked for a time but it came back so he went on Accutane. (He used the generic brand which was way, cheaper (about $65.00/month here in Canada.) His skin is completely clear now.

I could not really afford it but I made it work because I knew how important this was to him.

Keep us posted OK?

Raiders,

Aww! Don't be embarrassed! Your parents probably want to say something to you but don't want to hurt your feelings or make you feel insecure. Since I don't now you or your family I don't really know what to suggest but maybe just ask whatever parent you feel most comfortable talking to for some benzoyl peroxide. It is actually good stuff if you have not tired anything before.

Talking to parents can be hard but your parents LOVE LOVE LOVE you and want you to be happy and feel good about yourself. The next time they go shopping go along for the ride and get some non-prescription from the pharmacy. As a mom, I love it when my son comes shopping with me as he can carry all the heavy bags and I get to spend time with him! Anyway, please talk to them.

Yup-yup

PS - Give your sister a swat for having NO acne. I am almost 40 and dealing with it!

PSS - Don't really give her a swat. Be a good brother. (That is the mom in me saying that.)

The different stuff you can try is too vast to type up in one post. I think you should just skim through forums and educate yourself about different methods.

I think your acne isn't mild, that's for sure. Severe? I don't know how far the lumps go. It looks like it would have potential to cause some pore scarring. I hope your not popping/picking at your skin. That's a mistake a made before I knew anything about skincare, and now I will regret it for the rest of my life.

I think a good starting point for everyone is seeing a dermatologist. They'll most likely put you on an antibiotic (pills or topical solution) and then have you go on a retinoid (retin-A,Differin,ect.)

A lot of people love Cetaphil cleansers and moisturizer. I myself love Kiss My Face and Aveeno Ultra-Calming foaming cleanser.

I always wash my hands with liquid hand soap, rinse well, and then proceed to wash my face with my facial cleanser.

Sugar increases a person's inflammatory response, but some don't see it as an issue for their acne. Other dietary things to look for is milk and gluten. Too much milk personally breaks me out. Others don't see any correlation between diet and acne. Eating a well balanced diet is obviously good for other health issues,so you should still eat appropriately.

Keep your pillow cases clean. I like Arm and Hammer's detergent for sensitive skin. It has a big "Rinses clean!" sticker on it. I also don't use fabric softener. I have a pillow case for every day of the week, but I'm a bit excessive =P

There's plenty of stuff I missed, but you could write a book on how many different things you can do. Look through the forums and please, please do not pick at your skin.

hey there,

your acne is not severe imo. it is really great, that you did/do not pic your skin!! so the chances of getting scars is very small, i would say.

what you can try is: eat healthy food but eat those things that you like. eating should be a pleasure. you can eat sweet but don't 'overdose'. drink a lot of water and if you want, you can try zinc (tablets).

wash your face in the morning and in the evening with pure organic honey!! and make a pure honey mask two times a week, that you leave for about 20 mins on your face and then rinse with warm water. honey is a natural antibiotic. moisture your face with a very mild natural (the best would be organic. i wouldn't use neutro-gena or clera-sil because they are quite harsh products.)

if i were you, i would wait with those harsh medications like bpo. first il would try the natural way. what might be worth a try as well is to get some homeopathic gel/creme with calendula.

but maybe bpo is the miracle cure. i wont condemn it because for some people it had been the best way to get rid of there acne. so its up to you what you gonna do ;). i hope this helps.

have a nice day!!

Hey Raiders,

My acne looks like yours & I definitely do not consider it severe.

My best advice is to stop using products with lots of chemicals in it (those are the ones that tend to do permanent damage imo).

Try this for a month or two:

1. Cut back on sugar. It will be hard at first, but start by drinking water instead of soda or Gatorade; replace chips with a salad. Slow and steady wins the race.

2. Buy a bunch of lemons and once or twice a day squeeze half a lemon into a cup of warm water and drink it through a straw.

3. If you can buy some Epsom salt from the grocery store. It will be in the medicine section not where all the other salts are (ask a worker if you can't find it). Take a warm bath before bed with 1-2 cups of Epsom salt in it. You can use the salt mixed with some water to gently scrub your face (not too hard).

I've been doing this for a few days & I like the results so far. Plus it's a healthy regimen with only one ingredient in each :) The lemon water will clean your insides and the Epsom salt bath will clean the toxins out of your body. Try to eat healthy too.

Good luck.

Diet doesn't really have anything to do acne. Sure certain foods can make skin produce more oil = more risk to get pimples. But I believe no one "gets" acne from what they eat. They just need to have a good skin regimen.

So don't stress out too much on what you eat.

Well, since you are persisted to not seek help from a dermatologist.

I recommend applying a whole index finger worth amount of benzoyl peroxide on your acne.

Once daily, once nightly after washing.

Watch Dan's regimen video, and study from them.

It should be located on top of this website and under "Acne info".

They should cover all the facts and possible treatments for acne.

I am honest, and don't see how your condition is improving.

It looks worse than before with all those white pustules.

Telling the severity level of your condition really isn't going to help anything at all.

You can't apply mental comfort to kill off P. bacteria.

Wash -> benzoyl peroxide -> repeat for a week.

If this fails, get antibiotic from a family doctor.
