questions for those who have PCOS

anyone here who has PCOS..i have a few questions.

who was the one that gave you the diagnosis of pcos..was it your dermatologist or gynecologist? and how did they figure out that you had it? did they just go by your acne history and menstrual cycle? did they use an ultrasound?

im wondering this because my dermatologist pretty much thinks that i have PCOS since i have most of the symptoms. i've had irregular periods for most of my life..i used to get them like every other month or maybe longer...i've never had it every 28 days. i've had acne since high school, and my dermatologist noticed i had little hairs under my chin and on the sides of my face. so im thinking that there is a 98% chance that i do have pcos.

my derm said that using birth control pills is a way to control the pcos. so ive been on bc since May, and ive had regular periods ever since, so that's been helping. my acne is starting to heal little by little since i switched to yaz in august. the first bcp i took (aviane) destroyed my face so i had to stop using it. but what i want to know is if i do have pcos, does that mean i will have to be on bc for most of my life? cause i can't go back to having irregular periods, right? since having irregular periods isn't very healthy.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2008. An endocrinologist diagnosed me. If it wasn't for him, I'd still be left wondering why my periods are irregular and why I still deal with acne. I had an ultrasound done as well as a ton of blood work. The blood work showed that my hormones were off but the ultrasound showed nothing. I always thought that all women with PCOS had cysts on their ovaries but they don't.

If you do have PCOS, you may have to stay on some form of androgen blocker for the rest of your life. It sucks but what else is there? Once you stop taking androgen blockers, the acne and irregular periods will come back. I had tried birth control pills and the only one that works for me is Diane 35. I did try Yasmin but that was just a nasty experience for me. Hopefully, they'll work out for you.

Good luck!
