Topical - SUCCESS/FAILURE thread

Hi I am now just over my 5 month period of using Trentinoin gel. I suffered an initial breakout twice and since then I have been steadily improving but i am by NO means clear and i am unsure if its the Azelaic acid that is clearing me up. (improvement began after i started using Finecea)

Please post if you have had success or failure with your topical, what the topical is/was, at what point it worked or you quit and deemed it a failure.

some responses this time please, my last thread was ignored. :doubt:

Yes it is a bare minimum! I wish more people would believe that haha. It just gets better and better, I got lucky because I have more on mild side of acne... bordering moderate when untreated.

I used Retin-a Micro for 2 years with success and now use an OTC retinoid called Green Cream because I can't afford the "specialist" derm visit in conjunction with the cost of the prescription.

used ziana and was breakout free for 6 months. Then suddenly stopped working on my chin. My forehead no longer needed it and since I didnt have insurance, I stopped using it on my forehead which was still clear for another 6 months, while I had problems with my chin. Then I switched to differin .03 and it's been great. A few weeks ago I ran out of differin and used ziana on my chin again for a week. Then went back to differin because I was breaking out again while on ziana! I started using ziana again on my forehead because I was getting one or two cysts a month and I did suffer from IB, but so far it's worked perfectly. When I run out of samples, I'll use differin on my forehead. My form of acne is rather weird. I get cysts that are deep and are huge and usually only one or two at at time once a month. (I'm male). I wouldn't even know how to describe it.

I've never had more than 3 active pimples on my face at a time. But they seem to come and go randomly.

The KEY to tazorac working is moisturization and rest days. What I do is every week, I take two consecutive days off from tazorac. (my skin is sensitive). I use cerave cream. Its non comodogenic and makes you non oily. You have to make sure you massage it in to the skin; you only need a bit. i've recently started mixing mine with Argan oil. It makes it easier to apply, and my skin glows. I'll let you know after I've been using it for a week or two. Also, when you apply tazorac, leave it on for 15-45 minutes and rinse it off with water and re-moisturize. It actually only needs 5-15 minutes to work!

Short contact therapy. You'll have to work up to 15 min. I leave mine on for 45. I can't stand more than an hour. I use cerave hydrating cleanser mostly but occassionally (once every two or three days) use a benzoyl peroxide wash. I also will use benzoyl peroxide for 2 days every month. why? because tazorac can be safely and effectly combined with benzoyl peroxide. benzoyl peroxide increases irritation though. that's why I use it sparingly. I make sure I've stopped using tazorac for a day and moisturize well. then I use benzoyl for two days. take one day off from medication (or two) and go back on tazorac. using it in conjunction with bp is too much for my sensitive skin. My skin GLOWS-- I've been getting compliments about my skin and how it glows. I'm NEVER going off tazorac even if my pimples heal, I'm using it, less often, but using it most definitely!

By the Way, I've been using it for about 1 year and a half. This specific regimen has been for the past 4 months. (originally without all the moisturization and short contact, I was disheartened.) Nothing has worked on my acne. This IMPROVES the texture of your skin. It takes time to work, so stick with it. Please please please moisturize. cerave CREAM was the only stuff that worked. not that flimsy other stuff. I tried eucerin, but it clogs pores (mineral oil). cerave is like eucerin without the oil. i highly reccomend the argan oil. you need a little dot. it also is great for hair.
