Seems like a lot of acne medications cause sun sensitivity, and my dermatologist warned me that doxycycline is one of the worst. He said that if I'm planning a day in the sun I should skip a dose the night before and the day of. Anyone tried this, and did it work?

Of course I'll use sunscreen (and hopefully remember to reapply as needed), just don't want to burn excessively... Input appreciated!

Heya

My Derms never mentioned skipping Doxy doses before sun exposure- sounds a bizarre idea bcause Doxy builds up in the system. Maybe just use the combo sunscreen and wide brimmed hat method (hats like the girls wore in Sex in the City 2 movie can look pretty ok). That way there shouldn't be too much reason to skip a Doxy dose.

I agree with Shantelle. Plus skipping doses seems ridiculous because you need to maintain a steady intake of doxycycline in order to combat the acne.

Just be careful, intense direct sunlight on my summer holiday last year aggravated my acne even more, it caused horrible breakouts and inflammations. But then that was endless weeks in the sun, I don't think one day in the sun would make much of a difference really, just stay protected.
