can some products that contain benzoyl peroxide permanently damage your face?

Is this even possible? I noticed that after using proactiv's benzoyl peroxide for years (it was usually on and off, like 1 month on 2 months off 2 months on etc), my face in some mirrors and lighting looks really weird. Like it looks rough/dry. Is this permanent?

Moved to the Over-The-Counter Acne Medications board.

I can't say that no products that contain BP can permanently damage your skin. I mean, if somebody made a product that contained BP and, oh, say, hydrochloric acid (not sure why anyone would do that, but this is hypothetical, so...), it could definitely mess up your skin permanently.

Most of the products on the market these days are pretty safe, though. The dryness that can come with using BP products should be temporary, and fade after you stop using the product.

Perhaps you just need to moisturize more often?
