Let's start with my decision to try it. My grandfather has acne. My uncle has acne. My mother has acne. My siblings have acne. Obviously my acne is largely hereditary. After all the other medications and knowing the risks of Accutane, I thought I should give it a try because maybe it will help my entire family.

Like most of you I was excited. I started in Nov. 2008 and ended April 2009 and had no problems while I took it. Doc recommended Aquaphor Healing Ointment by Eucerin for my lips, and I still use it today. Yes my skin cleared and I had a great summer!

However, in April 2009 I started having pain near my left ovary. I ignored it for a long time until I noticed that the area was firm to the touch and hurt when I touched it. Long story short, after paying for specialists and ultrasounds (not a easy bill when you are a student), diagnosis is IBS. Everyone please look up the lawsuit about stomach problems and Accutane. I have to watch everything I eat and carry pills with me incase I get an episode.

It's now July 2010... my cystic acne is back on my face, neck, chest and back :( and extremely painful. Accutane for nothing! EXCEPT MORE PROBLEMS.

The IBS.

My left foot gets blisters in almost all of my shoes because Accutane thins your skin.

My precious hair, a few months after stopping Accutane I lost a lot of hair. Now it is constantly frizzy and I'm a hairstylist! I know the tricks to get shiny hair but nothing works. My scalp barely produces any oil.

All the people that are taking Accutane more than once, isn't it a sign that it didn't work the first time? Even if you didn't get any problems, your organs are being permanently damaged.

I only know of one person that has not had any problems. Everyone else I know or have heard about now has IBS. Please do your research and be prepared for the consequences.

That really sucks. It's really unfair that you have to go through that. However... what are you trying to accomplish here? This forum is almost exclusively populated by people who are ALREADY on Accutane. We've read stories similar to yours, we know what is possible. Your case is one of a small minority, though, we've decided the risks are worth it, and Accutane is what we're taking. All this thread is going to do is stress people out because I highly doubt anyone is going to stop taking Accutane because of one more bad story.

Not that I'm not sympathetic, cause that really sucks.

I understand what you are saying. I thought the risks where worth it too, but it wasn't for me. Just wanted to remind people of the damage it causes even if you don't see it right away. It's never too late to stop taking it, although you can't reverse the damage that has already been done.

My next step is to try the regimen but I'm also considering Traditional Chinese Medicine. Most people don't think of eastern medicine for treatment, but after my experience I wish I had tried it before jumping in to something so damaging. I am using herbs to help with my IBS and I've seen great improvement already.
