Since I've had limited success with topicals I decided it's time to try a different route...vitamins! I collected some information from this forum and from googling and decided to buy:

B-Complex [contains Riboflavin, Niacin, B6, B12, Pantothenic Acid]

Vitamin A 10,000 IU

Vitamin D3 1,000 IU

Nope...I don't think it's as important as the other ones I bought plus I find it easier to get vitamin C through my diet.

That seems good. I've always had acne, but starting December 09, I broke out like no other. By march 2010, I had like 15-20 pimples...I still don't understand to this day how my acne changed from mild to moderate-close severe over night.

Like you, topicals do not work for me. They just break me the hell out. SA/BP/Cleanser/Acne masque...etc...nothing

What has worked and has cleared like 95-98% of my acne is vitamins :dance: .

I still haven't found the perfect combo, but if it helps, this is what is a must for me:

Vita A - 10 000 IU

Zinc Picolinate - 50mg

Vit D - 5000 IU (1-2 every other day)

Niacin 50mg - Stopped using because it did nothing for me, I think. Didn't hurt either

Fish Oil 1500mg - Gave me nicer complexion, but I kept getting deep hard cystic acne (like 1-2 every now and then). After stopping, the cystic acne stopped.

Vitamin C - I'm planning to buy and try it. In combination with Zinc, I heard it's supposed to help wit complexion/smoothness/scar fading (which is where I am for the most part)

Since April/May, It's been pretty good. Still breakout (2-3/month), but it's minimal and goes away quick.

I just wash my face with warm water morning and night. Apply moisturizer only in the morning.

Great to hear dude, I probably should have added some zinc in there but I tried zinc in the past and didn't notice any difference so hopefully I have the right mixture of vitamins to keep it in check.

Zinc is really hit or miss, but don't overlook the other benefits of zinc. You might try liquid d3. NSI brand has around 2,000IU per drop / 900 servings for $9.99 . Also might help with absorption in some people. Not too mention most vitamins piggy back off others, so not having enough of one may affect how your body uses another.

Got my vitamins today, wooooo. I removed Vitamin E from the regimen because the capsules are huge and I can't take them. It's gonna be hard to tell if these vitamins are helping or not because my acne has actually been looking positive for once lately. My last major breakout was a week ago and besides that I've just been getting a few whiteheads on the nose area. Anyways, I'll update this as needed.

No new breakouts...cept one little whitehead, woooooo. I've tried googling but does anyone really know the absolute highest limit of Vitamin A you can take without it being dangerous? I know 10,000 IU for males and 8,000 IU for females are the standards, but I think I could get away with 20,000 IU if I don't go any higher than that, what do you guys think?

20,000 seems like a lot. I would see if 10,000 makes a significant difference, then step it up if you aren't seeing results.

Okay okay okay, I'll keep doing 10,000 for a week or so and see how it's going. I just like to push the envelope :D

Boss, most people recommend zinc because it's the supplement that has the most studies backing it. I personally tried zinc as well and did not notice any difference. For me it's all about analyzing your diet and making a list of what vitamins you're deficient in and supplementing with those. I think Vitamin A is a good starting point for anyone.

You should base how much to take by 1 1/2 or so month basis then having blood work done. Hell, you could have a super shit absorbent system thingy and 10k might not even be enough. Then again how do you know you're actually getting the touted units in that pill.

It's a good idea but I can't go to the doctors because I have no insurance!

There is a bunch of labs in texas where you can just walk in for blood work without having to use a hospital facility and pay the extra added doctors visit (+bloodwork). If you want you can PM me and I can tell you the one I went to. You can still use your local yellowpages to find some hidden gems with lower prices as well.

Good luck with the vitamins. I look forward to how your skin reacts to the dosage of the vit A. Someone mentioned niacin. I wouldn't take more than 50mg. I hear that it can cause severe facial flushing and...nobody wants that along with acne.

The flushing is only if buy the flushi variety. There are non flush Niacin supplements (although it didn't do much for me). Also, they are pretty damn big, at least the kind I took.

@jay - I've also wanted to try and take more than the max limit of 10k, but never have. I rather have it do its job slowly than possibly fk me up somewhere down the road. I don't think the vit E would have made that big of difference. It's more for scar healing (I think) than actual acne reducing.
