Switching from retin-a to accutane

Recommended Posts

I have been using retin-a for like 3 months and got pretty clear but not clear enough. My derm wants to put me on accutane. I think it will be a pretty low dose of accutane. I just wanted to know if it's a smooth transition from retin-a to accutane? Retin-a is essentially a topical accutane, so should I still expect an initial breakout? I have taken accutane before and didn't really get an IB but my skin got really oily and gross for the first month or two. I am also taking Doxycycline and using a clyndamycin/BP gel along with the retin-a. Should I just stop all of these products and start accutane, or should I slowly decrease the use of these products while beginning accutane? Please let me know. Thanks.

Why would you switch to Accutane if Retin-A is producing favorable results? What is clear enough to you?

Please post a pic.

clear enough for me is zero zits. The thing is i took accutane before and it cleared me completely for a year, then my acne came back but nowhere near as bad as before. I loved being on tane because i didn't have to do anything but wash my face. I hate how I have to take antibiotics twice a day, apply retin-a at night, and the bp/clyndamycin gel with moisturizer every morning. Plus I can't be on antibiotics for too much longer since it's been a little more than three months and my derm said she would pull me off after four. I am expecting my acne to come back as soon as this happens as well. My derm also told me that this second course of tane would prolly be the one to finally clear me for good.

Ya i'm looking at the same situation here, except this will be my first time trying accutane... been on retin-a for 2 months now and i'm almost clear.. gonna stick with it for 4 months until new years and then take accutane regarless if i'm clear or not. Having to put on BP/clindamcyin in the AM and then retin A in the PM aswell as taking antibiotics is a huge hassle and basically makes it impossible to go out and party.

So ya does anybody have experience going from retin-A to Accutane?
