My son just turned 9yrs old this month. Several months ago he started getting dark patches under his chin and around his mouth, but upper lip. He's African American. He is big for his age (102pds, 4'8" and wears a man size 9 shoe). The Dermatologist gave him a steroidal creme to see if they would fade to no avail. He said don't be alarmed, it probably wasn't anything but to watch it. Last week I noticed a light patch around the corner of his mouth. This week it's starting to get some dark patches. I'm wondering if he's entering puberty early. Does anyone have any ideas?

i'm surprised you are asking this on a acne concentrated forum

I'm honestly not sure what you mean. Pictures would help all of us out but i don't want your child to have his face on a forum by strangers at his age (no offense)

If the dark patches in question are not hurting your child in any way (aka, they sting when touched, are really itchy, etc) then i wouldn't even worry about it

Puberty could be, but at 9 years old it would unusual
