My skin after 3 months of DIFFERIN!!

Recommended Posts

I am on week 5 of my regimen. I just went to a new dermatologist (who was wonderful) today, and she prescribed me Duac to add to the Differin I have been using the past 5 weeks. So today is the first time I will be using them together.

Differin is interesting. There is definitely an initial breakout. It was bad for me, and it kind of still is. But... the reason it's bad is because it's clearing out years of acne that was just lurking under my skin! As my boyfriend pointed out- this medicine isn't a fast fix. It's working from the bottom up to actually improve my skin and not mask the problems. To me, if it works, it is totally worth it.

Does anyone have any advice for me? :)

At this point my skin is okay. It has gotten better in the last week. I have scarring and red spots but that's not really anything new. Makeup covers it mostly so I'm okay. I am hoping that everything continues improving from here.

Good luck!!!! keep us updated! my only advice is to keep patient but you seem so patient already! i love your attitude! I try to have that attitude during my breakouts as well on differin! i really hope this works for you!

Yeah... I went through a really depressing stage but there isn't anything I can do except wait right! How long have you been on Differin? Are you on your initial breakout or just random ones? And thank you :)

I am at about the two week point on differin! The two breakouts that i have experienced were not normal breakouts for me, there were a bunch of pimples in the same region for a few days then it cleared up. this is not usual for me so i do consider them an initial breakout. however, i do still develop one or two pimples about each day but they go away so fast i dont even notice them anymore, and this is lessening as well! keep positive and let me know if you have any questions! good luck!

I am on Differin and Duac. One doctor prescribed Differin, one Duac. The first doctor said not to use ANY other acne related products besides the Differin. Is this true? I shouldn't be using anything else? (Like AHA, salicylic acid... etc) Thank you!!

How're you getting on?

I saw some improvement in blackheads/whiteheads and my pores seemed a little smaller after about 4 weeks, but no change in cysts. I've been on it for 2 months now and haven't had any new cysts for a month (fingers crossed I didn't jinx that!) whereas I'd normally have a couple on my chin, so I think it's working fairly well.

I feel like my skin is much improved, although usually dryer in the mornings, after I wash the Duac off. I think that the Duac is doing its job, but not so sure about the Differin. Maybe next month when I see the derm, I'll tell her, and see if maybe I should move up to the .3% Differin.

xx

I think the overall quality of my skin is better! I haven't been on Duac the whole time so I can't say for sure about that, but I think it's helping to kill the new acne! :) I haven't gotten any cysts. But I think the problem area where I had a lot of stuff deep in my skin (I can't say exactly what kind, I have no clue, cyst??) is loving this stuff because it's been in constant fluctuation. Not especially good looking for me but I think all the crap is coming out so I'm okay with it! I think it's hormonal acne that kills me. Problem area is on the right side of my chin. It's always had spots and things. I hope it calms down and becomes more like normal skin after this is all over.

Hmm so you apply them both at night? My dermatologist said not to apply them together. I use Duac in the morning before my moisturizer or anything, and then Differin at night. Your derm. didn't say anything? Maybe that's why your skin is a little dry. Try using them at different times, I think it may be more effective. If anyone else knows, please tell! :)

And Euler, do you use the gel or cream? Thanks for checking. I am hoping things will keep improving. PLEASE> haha

I do Differin in the day and Duac at night. The dermatologist suggested it this way round to avoid bleaching my clothes (not so fussed about my pyjamas) as I use it on my back and chest a little too.

Both of my Differin and Duac are gels, not creams.

Differin on its own did very little for my skin, but it started to improve almost instantly when I added Duac to my regime. Good luck!

yes bek! i am about to start this very very soon. im fed up of clogged pores (some inflame)

basically i have some questions.

1) what is a good water based moisturiser to use?

my derm said to cleanse with Aqueous Cream, this sound legit?

2) say its week 2 and ive been using my differin CREAM 0.1% and i get white heads come up, do i still apply the differin over these or do you then avoid them and spot treat with Duac?

i think these are my main two concerns just now.

thanks if you can answer quickly. i want to get started now

ps ur display pic is amazing.

Hey!

if your derm said it, I would do it. I have also heard of people on this site using that so it must work for some people!! Sometimes I just put a thick layer of petroleum jelly on my face when I have a lot of time to let it sink in, it is soooo moisturizing. As for the regular everyday moisturizer, Cetaphil would be the simples option. Do you want sunscreen in it?

And definitely apply the differin over your whole face, whiteheads included. It works on unclogging those as well as the rest of your face! :)

And ooh la la, thank you!

Hey guys, ive been usng Differin/Duac combination for 4-5 weeks now (day 33) and the duac helped clear me up 90% within 2 weeks.

Although now after 4 weeks the differin is kicking in and pushing acne to the surface and the duac is having a hard time controlling it. But this is normal for the differin to do that.

Just dont be suprised if you start getting a few breakouts around weeks 3-5.

Best results are at weeks 8-12 so hoping the best is yet to come! stick with it =)

YAY! I am so glad it's working. I didn't START using Duac till week 5 so I think that's why I'm not having as much of a problem now, the IB was free to reign for 5 weeks haha :)

That's 2 months though, the IB can last up to 3!!! I recommend trying it for at least 3 1/2 months, you will get through it!!

Hi there

I have a few questions. So I have seen people call acne prone skin "sensitive" which is interesting and I don't know why I have never thought of it that way- seems about right. The thing is, my skin is acne prone, but I usually don't have any other problems with medications and such regarding my skin. Not much hurts me, from facials to lasers... I got a facial once (part of it was a granulated scrub) and the facialist kept asking me if it hurt, and I kept saying NO! haha.

So the point of all this is that I am using Differin .01 cream. Now I see this has been called comedogenic. Since I usually don't have skin problems, and the cream is for more sensitive skin, should I switch to gel? I have dryness sometimes but is that enough of a reason to stay on the cream vs. the gel? I am also scared of breaking out again if I switch from cream to gel. Does anyone have any advice/thoughts on this? There is always room for improvement I guess, I just don't want to make my acne worse when it's getting better.

I am also on Duac cream... I don't think it comes in a gel. Is that okay?

THANK YOU in advance!!!

I am not wearing ANY face makeup, just lips & eyes. WOOOOOHOOO :D

I think I look pretty good for an acne prone girl. What do you all think? I <3 Differin.

Smilin

Today.

^ please don't take this as an "in-your-face" post. I reread it and I guess it sounds kind of conceited but I just want people who I have recommended Differin to and spoken about to see the actual results I am getting :)
