I've came across Dr. Lam a couple of times in the past while searching for someone to improve my acne scars. I live in the Dallas area. What kind of treatments does he offer? From where I read, he didn't offer very many things. Therefore he will most likely just sell you what he has, which probably won't be the best. Search D.J. Verret - if I were to get something done, it'd be from him. He's also on realself.com and answers lots of questions. He seems very knowledgeable, and he also offers a wide variety of treatments. The only thing I don't like about Dr. Verret is that you have to pay $50 for a consultation, whereas most places it's free, but that $50 goes toward any treatment you may decide to have done. Hope this helps! Let me know if you decide to go to him.

I have consults with Dr. Lam, Dr. Verret, and Dr. Bassichis in July before I decide who to go with for some ice picks and a few other scars. I am also going to ask about getting a deviated septum fixed. The only bad review I have seen for Dr. Lam is I believe for a nose job, but I could be remembering wrong. Dr. B was recommended by my derm friend. I was told Dr. Lam and Dr. V charnge a $100 fee that can be applied to procedures, and I was told that to see Dr. B I would pay a specialist co-pay.

Yes you are right the consult fee goes towards your procedure....I haven't heard anything about the other doctor you are referring to dr. B.....does he offer alot of procedures?

I'm not sure about all the different procedures Dr. Bassichis offers. You can google him to find his website, but it doesn't go into great detail on scar revision. All I know is that he has a good rep amongst the derm community.

I haven't heard about Dr. Lam from any derms, but I didn't specifically ask. My best friend, who is a derm out of state, contacted her derm friend here in Dallas to ask about Verret and get other recs. I was told Verret and Bassichis have good reps. The derm here refers to Bassichis so only knows his work firsthand.

I'm disappointed! Dr. Verret doesn't do TCA Cross :( In fact he's never heard of it. He asked me over e-mail to explain it to him which I thought was pretty comical lol. Do you know how much Dr. Lam charges for TCA Cross???

I explained it to him and something seemed to click in his head. He said "oh yes!" blahdy blah. It seems kinda sketchy? But for some reason I trust him.

$700 for the whole face? Or $700 for a few scars each? Do you know what percentage of TCA he will use? When are you planning on getting it done?

I am going June 30th and yes no matter how many scars are on your face he will treat all of them for that price......if you feel like you trust him then go with that feeling.......usually that feeling inside you is pretty accurate. I think it's 100 percent tca but don't quote me on that.....

I thought long and hard about getting TCA Cross done by Dr. Lam. I researched him thoroughly. But he only had 1 good review out of every 10, whereas Dr. Verret [only] has good reviews. I just can't seem to find any other reputable dermatologist /facial plastic surgeon that does TCA Cross :/ This sucks!

$700 regardless of being full face or a few scars is simply too much. they are ripping you off. theres no doubt about it. i think youd be paying more for the doctors ego.

the price has gone down significantly since derms started to realise people could do it themselves easilly. mines $200 a treatment and includes computer facial scanning etc. the reason being is most people need 6 treatments.

sapphire, i think ur right to question dr lam. seeing his pics and his area of expertise, i think ud probably be wrong to go to him. If Dr Verret has only good reviews, its a good sign. Just make sure they are real ones :)

Let me set the record straight. I remember conversing with this potential patient via e-mail and she asked about TCA CROSS. CROSS is an acronym first reported in th medical literature in Dermatologic Surgery in 2002 which stands for chemical reconstruction of skin scars. The technique described uses a trichloroacetic acid solution to treat superficial acne scars. The technique has been around for much longer (the earliest reference I could find to TCA and acne was from 1972) and I was trained in fellowship and have been using it in practice. I simply do ot refer to it as TCA CROSS. An analogous situation are various mini facelift procedures which have been branded, the X Lift, Y Lunch Time Lift, etc. While I may not perform the particular Y Lift, I do perform the same procedure - I just don't give it the same name.

As I suggest to everyone, there is not just one approach to acne scars. In some cases, even in the same patient, several approaches must be used to obtain optimal results. The best bet is to consult with a physician who can offer you multiple approaches and realize that a 50% improvement in acne scars is a reasonable result in most cases. Just keep an open mind and don't dismiss someone just because they don't do a certain procedure. There is probably a good reason that it is no longer used!

ANYHOO - tca cross is still a great treatment option and a lot more effective than heaps of other treatments for ice pick scarring. Dr Verret, you and i both know the only other way to get rid of deep ice pick scarring is through excision - which is a lot more costly, risky and often leaves yet another scar. laser treatments do very little - despite what you may say. this site cuts through the bullcrap and im going to do my bit to help it stay that way.

I understand your need to protect your name but a lot of people here including myself have had wonderful results through tca crosses. now instead of telling people to try other inferior treatment options, allow them to seek out tca cross from someone experienced and willing to do it on them. If you wont do it, you are simply not that person.

I like what I know of Dr. Lam. I do admit though that the only picture that showed real improvement was the guy with the ice-pick scars. All the others that had silicone micro looks like almost nothing was done.

To be honest, I have yet to see any before and afters that really impressed me. Well, actually I have seen a couple of guys here but thats about it.

While you bring up some good points, I think you may have misunderstood his post.

I see Dr. Bassichis for acne scars, skin care and a recent rhinoplasty. He specialises exclusively in facial plastic surgery and takes great care of his patients. My dermatologist recommended him very highly as did pretty much every doctor or nurse I asked...and they were totally right. My mom even sees him now for cosmetic stuff (she won't let me what she does but she certainly looks great!). Don't go anywhere but Dr. Bassichis for amazing results
