Keep Your Chin Up. Seriously. It matters.

I found this harvard article about how self hypnosis and mental focus affect wound healing.

After reading it, it really turned me on to meditation and self hypnosis. I even think it is possible that mental focus can induce healing in skin, although I haven't demonstrated it personally yet.

Anyway, just thought I would share and see what you guys thought.

Also, here is a interview done with a doctor who favors meditation. She states that she measured a dramatic increase of stem cells in blood after a person meditated for 15 minutes.

Interesting! Meditation and hypnosis also lower stress, and, in turn, cortisol levels. High cortisol levels impair wound healing, so it makes sense to me that these mental techniques could help wounds to heal.

From personal experience, I know that my skin has looked its worst and scarred the most following several prolonged periods of high stress and pessimism. It's a vicious circle because I stress about my acne and scars slow healing and this raises cortisol levels and impairs the healing process further.

Interesting topic. I am suprised to find it here. I think we have just scratched the surface on the capabilities of the mind. The placebo effect is a perfect prelude to what we might expect. You may want to look into binaural beats, as an aid to meditation. http://www.binaural.com/bindemos.html

Dr Dean Ornish has long included meditation into his Reversing Heart Disease program. http://www.webmd.com/dean-ornish-md Dr Ornish gave a presentation of his program and fielded question at a meeting I attended and I was quite impressed.
