Salicylic acid and Retin-a at the same time

Recommended Posts

I'm about to start using Retin-a, which I'm really dreading by the way. I had a terrible experience with Tazorac so I'm not sure how my face is going to react to Retin-a.

Anyway, currently I'm using Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Cream Cleanser. This cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid. Is it smart to use this cleanser while on retin-a? Or should I switch to something without SA?

It shouldn't matter, since the salicylic acid is washed off your face before it really has a chance to do anything. Medicated face washes are *mostly* a waste, since the medicine is washed off before it has a chance to penetrate.

I've known people who have used topical salicylic acid and topical retinoids (Retin-A, Tazorac, etc) without problems.
