Why did roche continue accutane but keep roaccutane?

Recommended Posts

From what I can recall reading here in the threads that were posted about it, it had to do with the fact that they weren't making much money on Accutane after the generics were released in the US, but it the UK, their product was still profitable.

Erm, that's assuming you meant, "Why did roche discontinue accutane but keep roaccutane?".

How did roche find a cure for acne whilst looking for a cure for brain cancer - if they didnt know the drugs mechanism?

Or is this american testing policy - to test cancer drugs on people with severe reclacurrent acne?

Macbeth, no that's not a policy. The drug was initially used for cancer patients and from observation it was noticed that acne improved for the patients that had it. The drug was not geared towards treating acne from the beginning. Many drugs end up being used for different purposes that were not initially intended. Spiro is another one. It was originally manufactured to treat high blood pressure and now gets prescribed to women with acne because it was found to be an androgen blocker.
