Darker skinned people do have thicker skin

Recommended Posts

I remember there was a debate about this here a while back. Well the leading rhinoplasty surgeons do say this is true. You can read about it here.

What they say is that darker skinned people generally have thicker skin than lighter skinned Caucasians so if they undergo rhinoplasty, it can take more time for it to heal. This may have to do with the fact that darker skinned people generally lived in hot places, so they needed thick skin to protect from the sun. This may also be the reason that darker skinned people generally don't get wrinkles as soon as the average Caucasian may get without sunscreen etc.

And this may also be the reason that I have seen more darker skinned people getting acne. A fair Caucasian with thin and oily skin most likely will not get acne, but a darker skinned person with thick and oily skin, is more likely to get acne.
