Accutane affects fertility?

Recommended Posts

Hi all..

I read that one of the side effect of comsuming Accutane will affect fertility.

Is that true or its a myth?

Please enlighten me

I don't think it can cause infertility, but its hard to say, there are not a lot of studies on this. Although Roche and the FDA do say that it can cause abnormal periods. The most important thing is to make sure you don't for any reason get pregnant while on accutane.

good luck

Edit: Thanks Itailan boy for posting the link, Page 24 shows studies they did in rats, and a study in dogs regarding fertility and Page 27 under reproductive shows Abnormal menes. Which could mean a lot of things.

Fertility.. hmm. For women IF she is pregnant. she cannot take accutane because of the following reason:

- it will cause deformities to the baby.

However, DO NOT GET PREGNANT WHILE you are on accutane.

So be safe and careful.

Accutane affects females and males differently.

I've been on 2 accutane cycles. Once when I was 31 - 40 MG a day for 6 months. The second cycle was when I was 34/35. I went off it at the end of April when I was 35 right after my wedding. My husband and I waited 4 months before trying to get pregnant - to make sure it was out of my system. I got pregnant that November on the third month we tried. I was 36, my husband was 38.

I'm only 23 weeks along right now, but the baby looks totally healthy. All our ultrasounds - even the comprehensive ones - have been very good.

I just wanted to share my story because when I was thinking about trying to get pregnant, I became concerned that accutane would affect my fertility. Clearly it didn't.

I do recommend being off it for more than 1 month before trying to conceive just to be safe.
