i woke up this morning with this on my forehead....!!!!!

Recommended Posts

is this an allergic reaction? is it hormonal? is it from the change in weather? something i'm eating? something i'm putting on? i don't know what's going on and it's driving me insane!!!!!

i woke up this morning with all those sudden bumps all over my forehead and cheeks!

i just need to know the cause so i can fix this random breakout

my skin has always been perfectly fine... until about 3 months ago when i popped some pimples that weren't ready and infected them. so my whole face started breaking out and i was put on doxycycline. my face was clearing back, but then i started getting little whiteheads around my chin and cheeks. ok, no problem... but then today i wake up and my ENTIRE forhead and cheeks are filled with tiny red bumps and whiteheads. nothing is an inflamed pimple or whatever, but it's all bumpy and it looks like a rash or an irritation.

i don't know what's causing this, i haven't changed anything at all. i wash my pillowcases, towels and sheets once a week with baby laundry detergent. i eat well. i drink a lot of water. i keep my hair out of my face. i don't pick at my skin. i use only a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. i barely wear makeup and wash my makeup brushes 4 times a week. i just finished my period so it's not pms. blah blah.. so why won't my face just go back to normal!!!? WTF IS HAPPENING?!!!

i feel like crying cause i feel so hopeless and ugly :cry:i just want my normal face back! i don't feel like myself anymore, this isn't my skin!

the lighting in the pictures don't show how red they really are. but it feels like a bumpy cover on my skin, like a layer of a rash. pleaseeeeeee someone help me.

What are you eating exactly? Are you using any topical meds? Have you been overly stressed out as of late?

i don't eat the same thing everyday, but i usually have:

-oatmeal with banana, mixed nuts and raisins for breakfast

-a chicken sandwich with spinach and tomato for lunch

-and brown rice with black beans, veggies and chicken for dinner

i don't snack a lot, but if i do it's usually on fruit or yogurt.

i've tried cutting out dairy from my diet and the mixed nuts for a while and nothing improved. i've been eating the same things for a while now, so i feel like what's going on isn't due to my eating habits.

i don't use any topical creams because every single one i've been prescribed has irritated my skin. my face is extremely sensitive and i've just gotten to the point where i'm afraid of applying any cream on it.

i don't think i'm overly stressed. i mean, school just started again but it's not stressing me out to the point where i feel it or anything. besides, my face started getting like this before classes started. i am a little stressed about my face though. which is weird because i know being stressed about it doesn't help. i try to chill out and just tell myself to be patient, but it's been 3 months and i don't have an answer. knowing that my face is not like this is driving me crazy because i know something suddenly happened. this was literally an overnight thing. so i know that it's something that's going on right now that once i find out what it is, getting rid of this will be easier. but i'm just frustrated because i don't know what's going on, you know? like i don't have the cause so i don't know how to solve this problem.

i got a hormones and allergies test about a week ago, and the results for the hormones test came back that i have a high level of testosterone. so i'm going to a specialist for that and i think i'm gonna be put on birth control. i've read on here that birth control has many side effects and sometimes even makes the breakouts worse. i'm considering talking to him about spironolactone? i don't even know what i should do. please let me know if you have any suggestions? i'd only be taking birth control for my breakouts, not as a contraceptive because i'm not sexually active.. so is that pointless?

i haven't gotten the allergy test results back yet.

idk what to do, i feel so discouraged

The only suggestion I can come up with would be to try out hormone regulating vitamins if your current acne is definitely attributed to that (it would seem that is it). You could try a combination of Zinc and Vitamin B complex. I really hope that helps.

Just a suggestion, check for mites, bed bugs, and even scabies, theres a new breed going around mutated form of these critters that don't make you itch either, but they do make your skin react in ways like break outs and hard to heal acne etc... just putting it out there.

one thing I noticed my self, might have something to do with acne or not, but washing the room floors +vacuuming every second/third day to keep the dust off seemed like it helped, atleast for me. Everytime I noticed I had been getting oddly new, unexplained bumps, I sweeped the floor with wet towel. Now I dont know if it was stressing or something, but that seemed to help specially for skin irritation. I often noticed that after I had sweeped a dusty/dirty floor, specially if I was down there doing it with hands,my skin got really red & irritated.

Might help, worth a shot. Also I'd drop the dairy, even a little ones made it worse for me :|

Go to a doctor asap...this might become really bad. You might need systemic antibiotics or accutane to control this.

I had sudden acne breakouts and I didn't get medical help...resulted in lots of scarring.

Hi tulipbaroo,

I second the recommendation for a dermatologist. HOWEVER, I'd like to throw a possibility out there that your derm might miss. You might have fungal folliculitis. It's an acne-like condition that is caused by an overgrowth of the naturally occurring yeast on the skin. It's characterized by dozens of tiny zits and bumps that seem to spread from the hairline or eyebrows. And here's the kicker: it can be triggered by antibiotics- which is very ironic for acne sufferers.

I had it for two years before I figured out what it was (my derm never identified it- she just said to exfoliate more  ). I suspect it might've been triggered by a long course of antibiotic I took for a UTI. I've been treating it by putting Nizoral shampoo on the affected areas twice a day and letting it sit for 3-5 minutes before rising. I started to see results after only a few days- after two weeks I was 95-100% clear and I've been ever since.

Good luck!

akko: tell me more about this folliculitis. i just read a little about it, but it seems that if it was that it usually goes away in a couple of days? mine hasn't gone away.

i've been to the derm already, and all he had prescribed was doxycycline.. which was working for a while and then one day i suddenly woke up with my face looking like that! ^^^

it's been about 5 days since i posted those pics, and my face is still a wreck. those little forehead bumps have gone down a little but now my cheeks are the problem area. now even my jawline and neck have some of those tiny red bumps (some are small whiteheads).

i want this thing off my face NOW  i feel like my face is being invaded by something i don't even know where it came from. i feel so hopeless and just want to go back to normal :wall:

i'm going to an endocrinologist this wednesday, to talk to him about spiro and birth control.. since my testosterone levels came out high in my blood test. i really hope i find what's causing this, i'm at my wit's end.. i don't know what else to do anymore. this is terrible

Well, I can tell you that mine didn't go away by itself. I had it for 2 years before I found out how to get rid of it. But I think a lot of people's might go away by itself if their bodies regain a balance. That's the problem with antibiotics though- they can really upset your natural balance. You've probably heard that antibiotics can cause recurrent yeast infections in women, right? Well, folliculitis is like a yeast infection on your face.

Folliculits occurs often on the body. Here's a picture of what it can look like on the face.

Mine looked almost identical to that, with a few more inflamed whiteheads. There's a few good threads on folliculitis on here:

I might give the Nizoral a try before the antibiotics. Although I am frankly a bit prejudiced against antibiotics. (Just for treating acne, not in general.)

how do these allergy tests work?

well if they think your allergic to peanuts, they make you eat a whole bag and if you fall on the floor and go into anaphylactic shock then you know. only joking, theres a few ways i think. blood tests is one way, another way is by scratching the surface of your skin(on your arm) with a small needle that has some of the substance that you maybe allergic to. i think they categorize substances that people are commonly allergic to. so you would have dairy, pollen, animal, nuts, fabric, maybe some more. so if you said to the doctor, everytime i go round my grandmas house i get a rash on my chest, the doctor would ask is there anything differnt about you grandmas, if you said yeah, she has recently got a pet and has also started growing flowers in the kitchen, then the doctor would do a allergy test for both animal and pollen. its a little hit 'n miss
