Please put me on a regimen...

I'm at a loss, and don't know what to do. I am 33 years old, but have acne worse than when I was a teenager. Definitely related to hormones (cysts mostly chin and mouth area), but it doesn't really clear up at any time during the month.

In the past I have tried antibiotics, Differin, Accutane, Proactiv, and nothing helps. Some of those mentioned actually made it worse. If I use something specific for acne, it dries me out and then breaks me out worse than before.

I prefer a natural method, although at this point I might be willing to try other methods. My sis-in law passed away at the age of 26 from blood clots due to birth control pills, so I'm very weary of going back on the pill.

I am interested in hormone testing, so I need to call my GYN about that. I would go ahead an buy a progesterone cream, but I want to get to the dr first. I've read about Vitex, Evening Primrose oil, and several others.

Cleansers? My most recent purchase was Body Shop Seaweed line. Still getting a new cyst everyday. Just bought some witch hazel yesterday.

I'm in pain, and I'm embarassed to leave my house.

Thanks!

Have you considered Dan's regime ? As you have cystic acne it may take a while for it to have an effect, but if you start slowly and keep you skin well moisturised you should minimise drying of the skin.

I would suggest trying the B5(look in the vitamins area, itrs a super long post on B5, I read the whole thing before starting). I have been on it 2 months and so far it is working better than anything I have tried. I am 39 and have suffered since age 13 and want to try as natural as possible myself.

I started getting really bad cystic acne a few months ago (I used to get one or two here and there on rare occasions - but this was AWFUL, up to 12 at a time). I was as desperate as you sound. I started doing all the things in my signature and I have stopped getting cysts these past few weeks. Main things that probably help for cysts (in MY case) - evening primrose oil, zinc, rooibos tea, & identifying dairy as a problem food. Also, switching to a natural cleansing method vs. harsh chemicals. I don't put anything on the few pimples I get, unless they pop, then I will put a dab of neosporin on to kill the bacteria & so far it's worked wonders. I do use Retin-A but am only 3.5 weeks into that, still I do like that it speeds the cellular turn over rate.

I just have to keep reminding myself that less is more, and being very gentle with my skin is highly important!
