Starting accutane a wise choice?

Recommended Posts

Ok so i'm 21 and had bad acne for around 5 years. I have done my best to control breakouts using topicals and antibiotics. I become resistant to a lot of the antibiotics and they never really stopped really big breakouts when I was on them, even combined with topicals. I have tried just about every medication out there. I would have severe acne if it wasn't for treatments keeping it moderate.

I'm thinking about going private and getting accutane even though my acne is moderate. It is really affecting my life and I keep putting off plans and was debating dropping out of uni at one point. I have just really had it with acne and am looking for something that can give me a bit of time without having to worry about acne, so I can focus on more important things and get my confidence back.

I know the side-effects and even that it may not work for me but I still think its the best chance for me. Would you say it was worth it for someone like myself that has really persistent acne and its affecting them emotionally and their life in general?

Hope everything going ok for everyone else. Thanks :D

If it's that persistent and resistant to other treatments, I would say it's worth it to at least discuss it with a derm. I was in a very similar situation and am on accutane. Antibiotics/topicals weren't really working for me anymore and I was on them for too long anyway. Long term antibiotic use can have it's own set of problems. When I would come off of them, the acne would just get worse. Many doctors also consider the emotional effects acne can have on a persons life. Good luck to you!
