Sigh. The theorical solution seems so simple, yet so complex. I don't wanna be Scars4Life anymore, where is the cure!

Thats it im quitting physics to study regenerative medicine, and commit myself to trial and error experimentation. Luck of the draw has been the answer to alot of things, so was decorin and lugol's, if they do in fact work.

thought id update on my situation.

havent applied lugols for a while now. not since whenever i last mentioned applying it (couple of weeks ago? cant remember). skin is settling down but is still dry and discoloured. i can see now that from the short time that i applied lugols it hasnt made any difference to my scars. i told myself not to expect so much from it but i expected some improvement no matter how small. i havent really got any improvement.

i know its a short period of time and maybe 6 months to a year or two of application will have some dramatic effect on the scarring. only problem is that is a long time to go without seeing any results. after a month of on and off use ive already become disheartened and somewhat lazy.

given enough time lugols may help scars, but being the quinea pig is a bit too much of a push for me. if i KNEW that lugols got rid of scars in 6months to a year then i wouldnt have a problem applying it for that period of time. but not knowing is killing me at the moment. when i see no improvement after a month i find it hard to see how the next month will be any different, or the next, or the next ect. i really dont want to apply the lugols for 6 months to a year and go to all that effort only to find out that it doesnt work. i cant waste my time like that. after putting all that effort in only to find out it did nothing would really get to me.

so as i say if i KNEW it would work i think i could apply the lugols for a long period of time. but not knowing if it will work is whats getting to me. im just not prepared to commit myself for such a long period of time, go through all that effort and pain, only to find out it doesnt work.

so for me i think im just going to have to sit back, wait for other peoples opinions/testimonials, wait for science, wait for something new, wait til i can afford this new miracle treatment... i dont know something along those lines.

nonsides no example here, the people who prove lugol here this maximum 2 weeks and already wants to see results, and soon it stops, nobody would begin a serious experiment of 6 months to see if this works.

he is lamentable but I believe that it is thus

To give a quick update -

I did a needling session on my test areas almost a week ago, and I think this has increased the effect. I used 33-guage diabetic lancets, pushing about 2mm deep into the skin. Caused some bleeding.

The area of thinning scalp hair I have been testing does not seem visibly affected by the lugols so far. But the surface scar on my arm has undoubtedly been affected. It is definitely responding to the needling + lugols solution applications in some way. I'm getting the same scabby layer starting to peel off the top of the scar, just like others have reported here. And I no longer doubt that the hair growth through the scab has been increased significantly.

I do not know where this experiment will end up, but I think Dr. Derry's comments seem to be bearing out lately. I did not see as much as he claimed would happen early on, but things are picking up after the needling session was added to the regimen.

I will continue applying the lugols. I will probably begin doing more needling sessions at regular intervals. (Any suggestions about how often to do the needling?)

sorry i dont understand what your saying.

if your having a go at me for not doing it for long enough, well i did explain my reasoning pretty well and with a lot of detail. if you dont understand after my long post then theres not much i can say. i even stated numerous times in my post that i know i havent done it for a long period of time. also i applied lugols for around a month, not 2 weeks.

i never said lugols doesnt work. what i said was in the short period of time that i had used it, i didnt get any results. i said that it may work if applied for longer periods of time but im not prepared to put in all the effort and go through the painful stinging and scabbing over a fairly large area of my body, only to find out that it doesnt work. i think thats completely understandable is it not?

i hope to god it does work and good luck to everyone out there. i have no reasons to doubt the Dr at all. im definately not throwing the lugols idea out of the window (tbh its the only idea im left with and i think its very promising), im just waiting to see what other people say. does it work? what side effects? how long to see results? what am i looking for? when i get a better understanding of these questions i will definately try the stuff again and for a longer period of time if the answers are positive.

Update:

2 weeks- skin peeled off a layer but scar underneath is exactly the same.

I will be willing to give this another month and then I may quit. If there is not even a slight improvement by that time, I will have to call this a failed experiment.

@all: You will have to stick with the treatment for at least 6 month. Otherwise you will not see anything. If you don't believe in the results then email Dr.Derry and ask him about hints for better regeneration. He is on the trip for at least 3,5 years. So he knows best what works and what not.

Last week my 5% Lugol's solution finally arrived. In the next week I will begin with the treatment. First I will use it on a small place and test the applying of the lugol's. I will keep you all updated.

For all of you: We all sit in the same boat. And if the iodine really works, I will stick to it till the end.

I know that all of you have the fear that this treatment is only another one that does not work. But at the moment I don't what else to do.

If more and more are working with iodine then maybe we can help each other.

Finger's crossed.

you need to hope 6 months to see if it works or not… patience! hopefully you of result!

I ask: there are more photos of cases of regeneration by diode? in order to stimulate people to do this

we need to see more photos of successful treatment…

guys we all know it takes 6 months plus people dont have to keep saying it.

what people have been saying is that if they dont see even the slightest bit of improvement after a couple of months they might give it up and wait for other peoples results. thats all.

its fair to say some results no matter how small should be achieved after a couple of months. if not then giving it up for now makes sense until they get further feedback or if they arent prepared to wait that long.

we all know it takes time. but that being said, there should be at least some improvement after a month or 2.

I have been seeing improvement over 6 weeks application. I have also started to apply to my forehead to see if it will help my rolling scars.

All the best to all of you at Xmas! Merry Xmas! Wesołych świąt i szczęśliwego nowego roku!

so how are things going for everyone?

any updates? hows the lugols treatment going?

ive been using lugols for over a week now and so far nothing. no change, no stinging, no regenate material, no dry skin, no signs of regeneration or shrinkage of scars.

i know its early days but dr derry did say regeneration starts within 2-3 days. i wasnt expecting alot at all, after all ive learnt to lower my expectations over the years, but i did think i would see something no matter how small.

ill carry on going for now as its not like theres anything else that can help. interested to hear how others are going along...

YES, DR DERRY SAYS REGENERATION STARTS AFTER 3-4 DAYS BUT THAT'S JUST IT. THAT'S WHEN IT STARTS...NOT THE END RESULT. ONE MUST BE PERSISTENT AND PATIENT. IT TAKES 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR FOR NEW COLLAGEN TO DEVELOP. THIS WOULD BE A WONDERFUL ADJUNCT TO A DERMAROLLER. BE CAUTIOUS BUT I BELIEVE IT CAN WORK. I PEELED LIKE CRAZY AND RETIN A NEVER MADE ME PEEL. THERE'S SOMETHING TO THIS. WE ARE ALL IODINE DEFICIENT BUT PLEASE USE ONLY ON SCARS. I JUST STARTED SO I'LL SEE HOW THINGS LOOK 6 MONTHS FROM NOW. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

please read the whole thread, ive made several posts after this.

that post was over a month ago.

what i was trying to say was that there were no signs of regeneration. the whole reason why he said regeneration starts after 2 days was because HE COULD SEE differences in the skin. i couldnt.

everyone i had spoken to about lugols mentioned drying or stinging after first application or after a couple of days. I COULDNT. thats why i typed what i did. i never said LUGOLS DOESNT WORK ITS RUBBISH. i said nothing had happened and i wondered why because things were happening for everyone else (stinging, drying, redness etc).

nobody on this board expects their scars to disappear before their eyes. especially not someone who has tried virtually every method and has been researching scar regeneration for years.

i feel like i have to explain myself over and over everytime i make a post, i appologise if im not clear enough first time round.

good luck everybody and keep posting

I urgently need your help in connection with the lugols solution:

Four days ago I ordered my lugols solution again, because I lost the last one. What makes me wonder is that this time the fluid much darker and probably stronger even though I ordered the same strength (5%). The problem now is that I'm not able to remove the stain from my face. Is this normal? Does the stain goes down till to the dermis? Can anybody give me some suggestions how I can remove the stain please. This condition is unacceptable, because although I treated only two spots I'm not suitable to follow my work. Thank you very much.

@Changelife:

Some words on your problem from the paper of Dr Derry.

Lugol’s skin stain

The brown color of Lugol’s iodine results from free iodine’s reaction with water. Many skin stains show free iodine to be the only chemical causing any stain whatever. In addition it appears completely restricted to the superficial epithelial layer referred to above which grows so rapidly over open wounds. Normal skin also stains the same color and in the same way. Iodide has no color and tri-iodide although having a light yellow brown color cannot be detected in any stains of skin tissue. Lugol’s iodine brown color stain is restricted to surface epithelial layer cells mentioned in classical literature with no deeper layer stain visible.

Two rapid ways to remove iodine stain

Iodine is notorious for staining where it is not wanted. Therapeutic human skin stains are harmless and easily removed by two methods. Rubbing stains with moistened vitamin c tablets reduces free iodine to colorless iodide within 10–15 s. If free iodine needs to be removed, not reduced, soap micelles rapidly capture highly lipid soluble free iodine within 30 s also removing stain color. Control of iodine stains is socially useful for facial stain applications. After removing iodine stains prior to attending a social event, upon returning home patients can reapply Lugol’s iodine without loss of regenerating momentum.

I hope this is of some help for you.

I will tell you that after everything I have tried, the only thing that really showed siginifcant results was using Fraxel at a dangerously high setting (like where your skin swells like a golfball after treatment and redness persists for years). The most aggressive Fraxel 2 on a spot where I had really bad temple scars has resulted in dramatic long-term improvement and it has been two years since I did the intensive treatment on this spot. The less aggressive treatments spread over more sessions are a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!! They do not result in the same level of imporvement.

Still doing the topical iodine. Mild benefits. Very slow but I think the gains are real. It might take a year to see anything very dramatic at this rate.

Needling is vital to help the process IMO.

Hey what if you do a TCA cross, then apply iodine everyday to the crossed scab?

Also does this iodine thing really work, only 1 person on here seems to be saying it worked after 5 days, which is hard to believe.

:shifty:

Rite Aid sells something called "Povidone Iodine Solution 10 %"

A Wikipedia search on this says

"Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a stable chemical complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone, PVP) and elemental iodine. It contains from 9.0% to 12.0% available iodine, calculated on a dry basis"

CAN THIS POVIDONE IODINE BE USED? It was 9.99 at Rite Aid Drug store

Well this thread started like barely 2 months ago. So if anyone is claiming that it works, they are obviously lying. To see anything you will need like 5-6 months. For those that are going to quit after a month or two or even three, if you don't see anything, then don't even start it, you are just going to waste....... well money I guess, Its not like it takes much time or effort to put a bit of iodine on your face, and its not like you are doing anything better with that time anyways, except sitting here reading through this message. Also, don't do or buy anything other than what was instructed. Dr. Derry said he used 5% Lugol's solution and simply applied it on a scar, and he has witnessed a scar fully regenerate, he didn't say 2% or 7% Lugols, or for that matter anything other than lugol's solution. It is pretty straight forward, if you are doing anything else, don't expect it to work, if by some miracle your uneducated guess at how the iodine treatment should be conducted works better, hats off to you, otherwise chances are equal or greater that it may make things worse, or if you are lucky do nothing. With that said, Lugol's should make the scar somewhat red, or dry, or just feel funny, other than that there is really not much to see. Alright, well if you do it the right way you should be fine, if you have done it continously for over six months, and your skin looks the same, then you should go contact him.

Hi All,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!

Scars4life is correct. If you want to try the topical iodine method then do exactly as prescribed and try it for at least 6-months before jettisoning the treatment. It has been 2+ months since I have been applying 5% Lugol's and I plan on sticking it out for 6 months.

I have seen some improvement in skin texture, possibly because the iodine makes my skin peel every few days. I figure that there is no treatment out there right now for scarring that gives major improvement (with possibly the exception of stem cells which is still in infancy) so it is not that difficult to buy a bottle of Lugol's and put it on every night before I go to sleep. There is really no downside. Either it is going to work or it isn't. All it takes in 1 minute or so to apply the product.

Ciao!

C.

im still unsure/waiting to see how it affects my other scarring, but can honestly say that patches of rough hypertophic scarring have been noticeably improved thanks to the iodine application..
