Yep, I agree. It can help shallow scarring and will plump up your skin, but you gotta be patient. Don't expect anything real noticeable for about 6 months to a year.

thanks for the reply...few more questions, whens the best time to apply it? would combining it with bio oil get me better or worse results? and what does it do for those scars that stick out?

The best time to apply it is at night after u washed ur face. If u dont then the sunlight will degrade the retinoid and it wont work. Idk about the bio oil and the raised scars, it might help tho.

you also want to wait 20-30 minutes after you've washed up. to be sure that your skin is thoroughly dry. this particular medication loses its effectiveness when it reacts with water

i dont see how tretinoin can improve scars. i know it increases collagen and mabey elastin but it doesnt reduce scar tissue.

Yep agreed! You can try some natural ways to reduce acne scars.few ways to get rid of scars apart from Aloe Vera:

1.Try vitamin E oil.

2. Most doctors prescribed this clinically tested internal supplement called "Acne Control Extra Strength Tablets" for a healthy skin.

3. Apply cucumber and tomato juice mixed together on their scars. You can also apply lemon juice directly on your scars.

4. Apply a paste mixed with sandalwood powder and a little rosewater or make a paste out of oatmeal and apply that to your face.

5.Apply egg white to your acne scars.

The above might work for red marks which some people confuse with scars. I really doubt that the above will work for atrophic scars.

basically you need to somehow reduce the scar tissue (dermaroller etc) and replace it with new collagen and elastin.

According to Dr. Pikart (skin biology) scar tissue can be reduced by using acids (glycolic) - again i personally dont think this would work bu then again i have never tried it so i might be wrong.

check out the skinbiology website go to '8 skin biology websites' at the top of the page and click on 'scar reduction'

i still havent found acne solution

but i use tretinoin, and mighty hell does it work for MY scars.

few facts:

I'm about to be 15, have moderate acne, dry skin plus oily nose, light KP on upper arms.

anyways, It rids of scars on my face, neck, chest, and thighs. When used on inflamed acne, it brings the gunk to the top. It doesn't get rid of active acne though.

well retin-a gets rid of wrinkles, so i dont see why it wouldnt work on scars as well. as previously said, it can take up to a year to see results, though.

I need to get a prescription for this. It's just a pain in the ass since I have school and work whenever my derm is open.

Is it possible to get a prescription over the phone? Some guy was able to get his viagra prescription over the phone.

Wrinkles and scars are completly different. theres no scar tissue in wrinkles lol. retin a stimulates collagen and thins the epidermis that why it reduces wrinkles. scars have scar tissue which i dont think retin a gets rid of.

Also, since tretinoin cream increases elastin, would that mean it could fix scarred pores?

if the pores have been stretched out due to clogged pores /blackheads then in theory increasing elastin should let the pores revert back to their original size. Yea breakin up the scar tissue by needling / dermaroller then using tret to increase collagen should work ...im not sure how well though and it takes time and consistency. also vitamin c is suposed to increase collagen oral and topical

Ive been on Retin-A for 10 years now and it definitley has helped with my scars I had some of those shallow scars on the sides of my chin but since using the Retin-A they actually arent as noticable. I have some pics in my profile so u can be the judge on how well its worked for me. Im not saying my skin is perfect but if u saw me before you would definitley say retin-a made a huge improvement !! In one of my pics im only wearing eye makeup no foundation or even face powder which i would NEVER go with out lol :catdance:

Anyone know if isotrexin has the same effect? Isotrexin is not tretinoin, its isotretinoin in topical form. Does it work the same?

I have been using retin a cream for a few weeks now. It has dramatically improved the texture of my skin amd uneven surfaces caused by my stupid acne. However with my raised scars, all it has done it change the colour from purple to bright red?
