My Topical Journey

Recommended Posts

I have decided to use acne.org to track my progress through this random regimen I am trying. I started it two weeks ago since Monday of this week, but I figured maybe I could get some opinions back from people and how they are doing with the differin topical.

I am 19 years old... a female. I have probably tried just as much as everyone else that has stubborn mild/moderate acne. I have had acne since I was 11 and I probably started going to the derm when I was 14.

List of everything I've tried in order:

- over the counter products

- tetracycline 100mg, Retin-a, 4% BP wash

- Ortho trisprintec(BC), minocycline 100mg, differin .01%, 4% BP wash

- ortho trisprintec, minocycline 50mg, differin .03%

- proactiv, differin .03%

** I used proactiv ever since I can remember, not consistently until now.

The regimen I am doing now is..

Morning: Proactiv daily regimen (BP cleanser, toner, and 2.5% bp lotion)

Evening: Practiv BP cleanser and differin .03% on infected areas.

So.. to begin.. now that it has been two weeks into this regimen, I have seen very little change. I have had probably like 3 initial breakouts haha.. I don't know if this is normal on differin, but I get large, really sore pimples that just don't go away. I try extrememly hard to keep myself from picking and poking. If they are really bad, I make sure to wait until they have reached the surface than pop them. The majority of my acne is just on my cheeks and chin, Ill post pictures.

The good thing about differin is that it heals my pimples quickly, such as scabs and things like that. Before, they would be on my face for weeks, not maybe 2 to 3 days. My skin at first was very dry and itchy. Now its just itchy.. and somewhat dry.

I am going to stick through it until I see my new derm in October, so three months I feel is a good testing period of differin.

Currently I have two inflamed pimpls on my right cheek bone, my chin has broken out, and my left cheek near my ear has a bit inflammed pimples. My goal this week was to stop picking, I failed already. But.. I have limited the touching so that good.

These are the photos after week one of this regimen

Day 18

My skin hates me!

Usually when I wake up in the morning my skin is smooth, a bit oily, but nothing like it use to be. Then throughout the day my skin starts to get bumpy and my inflammation gets works.

Not today, I woke up with two really inflammed spots on my cheek and chin. Why is this happening??

Well.. I am a bit down about how my differin is going. I am going to try and find a good moisturizer to use on my face because I found out that it's bad for your skin to be dry.

Ugh.. I am sure hoping for better results in a few weeks.

My adivce, stop the Differin. I have a huge tube of Differin I think it's the 0.1% and it made my skin itchy and just didn't feel right or good at all. That's when I switched to a daily scrub, Benzaclin, and Cetaphil Moisturizer incorporating the Clean & Clear Advantage Oil-Free Moisturizer w/ 2.0% SA and in the morning adding in a pump or 2 of Biore Skin Preservation Oil-Free Moisturizer w/ SPF 15 to combat any future wrinkles and I'm on month 3 now and I'm pretty happy with my skin :: knock on wood:: lol but seriously stop with the Differin and try Benzaclin. It's a gel also, goes on smoothly, and you see results in as little as 2 weeks like the website says. It's totally worth it. I'm 19 also and have been looking for something to help with my acne and I think this is it.
