low glycemic index(gi) or glycemic load(gl) diet help!

Recommended Posts

Been trying to understand how the low gi or gl diet works. this is the part I don't understand:

if for example: 50g of oranges = 60 on gi scale,

then: 100g of oranges = 120.

now if I mixed the foods:

50g oranges = 60

50g apples = 23

will that food mixture equal 83 on the gi scale? Or will the two(or more) foods equal less than two servings of the same food? Hope this makes sense.

50g oranges = 60 on gi scale.

50g apples = 23 on gi scale.

50g oranges + 50g oranges = 100g oranges = 120 on gi scale

50g apples + 50g oranges = 83 on gi scale?

50g apples + 50g oranges = 60 and 23 on gi scale, but will not be added together which will raise gi level here?

can you add apples and oranges? Sorry couldn't resist.

what I'm trying to say is, does eating one serving of two different types of food not equal two servings of one type of food food?

Any help would be great. Thanks and bye.
