Will my antibiotics prevent retin-a purge?

I've been using the antibiotic Bactrim (Septra) for about a year now for minor cystic acne (the small deep scarring nodule type, not the huge pussy type). My skin looks great now..the only time I get a cyst is PMS week and it lasts only 1 week now..I've been taking only 1 bactrim a day rather than 2 for a few months now was well. However, I realize that I can't stay on antibiotics for long and was thinking about making the switch to retin-a over a few months.

My question is, because the bactrim has my acne so under control, will it probably keep me from the retin-a purge period? ALso, after about 5 months of retin-a do you think it will have my skin under control enough for me to slowly quit the antibiotics without risk of a huge reappearance?

(as a side question, has anyone had any hair loss associatedd with long-term antibiotics?)

No, I'm on tretinoin and took mynocycline. It mainly helped with the painfulness of the purging and for the purging to go away faster.
