Hey my name's Christina, call me Stinna for short(:

Well, my acne is BAD, real bad. Ive been to the derm twice before and all they do is give false hope & rob your money. What im starting to do now, which i should have done months ago before my face became horrific, is going to a facialist. She belives that popping the pimples, the right way of course, is way better than letting the pus rot away your face and spread. So, today i went to hell and back, she popped every single one of my pus filled volcanoes til it erupted with blood.

Id rather have scars or w.e than to have these damn shits on my face. Im fed up. So she put me on a three step system called Clear Now with Salicylic Acid, dunno if itll work but its worth the try.

heres a pic of my face after the facial.

+

a way better pic of me(:

I don't understand this?, I thought if you had cystic acne and you don't pop it, your body naturally drains it away from the cyst through the lymphatic system or produces a safe zit that will pop on it's own. Sorry to be all scientific but this is what I thought happens.

I've had many cysts before, perhaps not to the scale as what you had, but Ive had them and left them and they got bigger and spread a lil, but eventually they shrunk into a red mark and then faded overtime.

Is it because you'd rather pop em and get rid of them than wait weeks for them to shrink and fade away?

I found her theory a little strange as well, but then i thought about it and the more you let it sit there rotting away the more they spread, i guess. You know im a little skeptical of her theory but w.e i guess ive hit rock bottom and theres no where left to go but up(: My face was not at this extreme four months ago. -_-

have you thought about asking your derm for accutane? I know some people on here have some reservations about taking the drug, but I took it about a year ago and it cleared me up completely. It looks like your acne could cause scarring and that would be one reason your derm may perscribe it to you. I just know how it is to try everything and have only limited success.

First of all you are beautiful. Hmm secondly its very well known that YOU never pop pimples, so to me what your facialist is doing is super retarded and will only worsen the problem, not fix it. Squeezing acne is a no no, especially with the type of acne you suffer with. Your acne is inflamed, so all that facialist is doing by squeezing your pus filled pimples is pushing the infection furter in to your pores. I dont know, to me it sounds like a completely wrong direction to go in, and will not get rid of your acne, or you will be left with a whole bunch of horrible scars. You are a pretty girl, dont ruin your face

I would suggest you go back to your doctor. You have been prescribed antibiotics and topicals and they are not working. If you are going to see a facialist, you should make sure they are properly trained and licensed. The one I visit is within the dermatologist's office so there is no incentive for them to sell me products or perform any procedures outside of their expertise (mine makes no commission and does not accept tips). You say your mom has spent a ton of money on creams, etc. It would be more beneficial to you to spend the money at the doctor's office (the facialist probably cost as much as a doctor's visit). I have to agree with IBA2008, you might want to consider accutane and have a heart to heart with your doctor or dermatologist. If you don't care for your doctor or dermatologist, find one that you like and is sympathetic to your situation. Good luck.

Your a beautiful girl! I too would go see about getting accutane, if your spending money on random products and facials, you might as well give it a shot since a lot of people with skin like yours have had the most success with it. Your a beautiful girl and dont let acne make you not think so! Good luck :)

I know whats it like to get desperate and want to try everything under the sun. I was once in your shoes. I'd honestly spend like an entire day just browing for some miracle procedure that I haven't tried yet.

You have a great face and I hope one day you won't be bogged down with this stupid condition anymore! :)

hi Christina, I'm John. I'm on accutane right now, and to be honest, I don't pay for anything at all. The state pays for me, but I asked my dermatologist how much it would cost with out insurance would be at most $100 a month, which is great considerin with insurance would prob be $5-$10 a month, plus your blood work and all. The kind of acne you have makes it worse if you pop them. How do you know that the facialist you go to know isnt tellin you to pop them so you go for their products? Acne is tricky, I was told i most likely wouldn't go on accutane, but I'm on it now, and my skin is clearing up. Just do some research and find somethin best for you. This time last year my skin looked great, then in the past yr it got really horrible, so be patient too.

I got clear from an esthetician who specializes in treating acne, and I have seen her clear people with cases of acne similar to yours. So, I do know that a good esthy can really help get you clear.

However, I worry about the kinds of procedures your esthetician is doing - extracting inflamed acne or cysts to the point that there is alot of blood does not sound right to me. I also don't think that the limited active ingredients in your home care products are going to help your acne much. I PM'd you a more detailed message about my thoughts on your treatment.

Isn't there any way you can afford accutane? Because that was the only thing that cleared my acne, my sisters and a few of her friends..None of who i know has had any side effects from it....

If you cant afford it...I would suggest getting a facial wash that is for dry to sensitive skin and stop using any make up that blocks your skin. I used a certain "kind of like foundation" cream for a while to hide my acne and it gave me cystic acne, so be careful with that. Also only wash your face with water in the morning and then wash your face as usual in the evening....that is my recomendation, might seem crazy but it is the best.

By the way...I love your face, you are very cute. But dont get a big head now and think you are the shit, stay modest;)! You look very much alike a latina girl that i dated when i was a exchange student in california...and that is a good thing=).

i think you are gorgeous, dont let your acne get you down like it does to soo many people, ive been in that situation before and its not nice. Even thoguh i still have acne i think things like a nice haircut or really nice clothes help you fell better taking the emphasis of your acne, it also calms you and doesnt let yyou stress about spots as stress causes more but yea ur gorgeous :)

If u cant afford accuntane try doxy and spironolactone. It will be at least 2 to 3 mths before u see any diff. But at least u dun hv to go through the agony someone trying to pop that severe acne. And lerosett mask. That mask only cost 34 usd.

I hope things get better for you Krissy. I totally relate to you in that severe acne is an ongoing war and it's like a battle everyday. You just have to keep looking up and see that it could always be worst(cancer, diseases, etc), having love ones for support, and being in such an awesome country where we have options to fight this(could be in a 3rd world country!). Also another way I could relate to you is that it's sooooo expensive to try and prevent acne. I'm low income and going to a doctor isn't really a feasible option for me. I always have a feeling that they're just trying to gouge me no matter what.

I tried everything....BP, proactive, various regimens, diet change, giving up diet soda(that was super hard!), not eating protein even though I love working out, and so much more. I started getting severe cystic acne when I started college. I would literally get a cyst about the size of a M&M and it would always be inflame every week...yes....every week :( My cysts were like yours but on my jaw, nose, and the area between my eyes.

Accutane is always referred to as a last resort drug for acne. I was really at an all time low after finishing my spring semester. I researched it for about a week and tried to understand the pros and cons. It's always good to look into what you put into your body since a drug as potent as this cause many problems. I told my parents about it and found a legit online that sells it overseas. It was hard to persuade them since the price was high and how much you get in a package. People said the price of the accutane I'm taking isn't as bad compared to what doctors charge and it's the generic brand.

Here's my experience with accutane since I started in Mid May(just after finishing the semester)

first few days: none

week in: lips get dry as crazy and started to use lip balm more

week 1-2: muscle soreness in random places. would get some dizziness but not that bad. Bad breakouts than usual

week 3: don't feel the soreness that much(went back to working out, same as normal now)

week 4+: everything feels good. Bad breakouts are going away. Taking 40 mg of accutane daily, I plan on going to 20mg for awhile after summer ends. No cysts

Month 1-2: Mild breakouts but not as harsh prior to taking accutane

It's mid july and only had one cyst but it went away pretty fast. Skin is clearing up alot more but I still have a little redness. The redness is coming from me trying to squeeze out blackheads since I'm trying to win back smooth face for once in my life lol.

It's such a dramatic change after 2-3 months. I haven't had any side effects except chapped lips for the past few weeks. Make sure you ALWAYS have a chap stick with you but I'm sure you do since you're a female hehe. It's worth every penny and I try to recoup the cost of it by not going out as much and not spending alot on food. It's a shame that this is my last semester and it will be the first time my acne isn't severe. My confidence has never been this high since my senior year in high school. I hope your current regime works well and if not you can always look into accutane.

Sorry for this long poor grammar post but it's 12 am! I felt touched since we had alot of stuff in common in regards to fighting severe acne. I had to go away from my computer a few times while typing this post since it was hard for me looking back on my severe acne :(

If you want more info Krissty regarding accutane then log on AIM. My AIM is StevenTran409 and would be happy to help you or any other person reading this if they have questions about accutane.

Hey there,

Well kind of sever but you may give a shot some other treatments. I am trying anti inflammatory foods... ie NO corn made or corn, flour, potatoes, fry food, tomatoes, wheat, bread, etc...drink lots of water.

wash face 2x day...

seek for a derm help... I went onto accutane and it was bad for me... left scarring on my jawline and i may try some laser treatment to see if acne gets away for sometime and help with the scars..

good luck

This time last year my skin looked great, then in the past yr it got really horrible, so be patient too.

I was on Accutane last year, and lost my prescription coverage halfway through. Without insurance it cost me almost $300 a month, which was very steep for me since I was in graduate school, but it worked so well and was the only thing that helped after years of trying everything, I was desperate and found a way to pay it for the last 3 months my dermatologist prescribed. I am unsure if you are in the US, but trust me-in the US at least (can't speak for other countries) even though it's generic it is very expensive without insurance (but quite cheap with prescription coverage!). I frantically searched everywhere-on the internet (although after much research buying accutane online is NOT recommended because you might not even get the real drug!) and called every pharmacy in town for the cheapest price, which was almost $300/month generic for 40 mg 2x day-it's a bit cheaper if ur on a lower dose, but not much. So please know if you don't have prescription coverage that Accutane-even generic-is very costly.

That being said-I really really recommend asking ur dermatologist if u can take Accutane-it's a drug you take when ur acne is persistent and non-responsive to other treatments. It does require a fair amount of blood work/testing, and if you have a good dermatologist, they will only prescribe if it's appropriate for your individual situation.

I personally believe that diet to blame is complete GARBAGE-if that is what caused acne, then most of the US and westernized would be riddled with it! Why after taking Accutane-but not changing my diet (which was very healthy to begin with and I have never heard of any recommendation of changing your diet specifically while on Accutane so we can't give that credence) did my break-outs completely disappear?! I don't mean to sound negative against people who suggest such things as soda causing acne, but please understand that it is much more complex than what you eat and your lifestyle in general. Stop blaming people for something that is genetic and entirely out of their control!!! Some people are just unlucky to be cursed with acne-period. And we all do whatever it takes to get rid of it.

I think most of severe acne cysts come from genes :( My mom said she had it and I could see her scars. Lucky shes a chick and could wear makeup to make it look better

Its a shame that people as pretty as you have to deal with acne.

Those little bumps here or there can't make you any less gorgeous than you are =]

but they sure can make you feel like it. Honestly, its all in your head!

Dont let it get you down! Try what my dad told me:

Every day when you wake up, go to the mirror.

Don't look at a single zit! just look straight in your eyes!

tell yourself at least 10 times out loud "i am beautiful" and mean it!

do the same right before you go to bed.

every time you catch yourself looking in a mirror, flash yourself a smile and turn away before a negative thought pops into your head!

It sounds silly but im sure it will work!
