When to start treatment?

Just wondering why accutane tx has to start on the day 3 of the menstrual cycle? Why not day 4 or 5? I am starting my tx this week...i prefer to start on saturday, after school has finished...but day 3 falls on thursday. :S

Pretty sure the menstrual cycle thing doesn't really matter. I'm not sure why they specify which days of the cycle you're supposed to take it, but personally I never kept track and I don't know of anyone who did. You can ask your dermatologist if you're worried about it, but I'd say, if you want to start on Saturday...eh, start on Saturday.

The iPLEDGE booklet is pretty weird about pregnancy tests... mine says I'm supposed to have one within 5 days of the start of my period (cause, you know, every girl's period is exactly on time all the time  ), but my derm's office really doesn't care. And even if yours does... how can they really "know"??

yeah, i know they won't ''know''...but i just want to make sure that i'm doing this right. i don't want to screw up the whole treatment just because i chose to start a few days after i was supposed to.

so did anyone start their treatment on the 3rd day of their period??

Start whenever you want to after two negative pregnancy tests. The day of your period doesn't matter; having TWO negative pregnancy tests at least 19 days apart and having been on at least two forms of birth control for a month prior to both tests does matter. http://www.rocheusa.com/products/accutane/pi.pdf Line 418.

As part of the ongoing risk management of isotretinoin products, it is crucial that a female of childbearing potential selects and commits to use two forms of effective contraception simultaneously for one month before, during, and for one month after isotretinoin therapy. She must have 2 negative urine or blood (serum) pregnancy tests with a sensitivity of at least 25 mIU/ml before receiving the initial isotretinoin prescription.
