When were you prescribed Accutane?

Hi everyone! I was wondering how long it took before your dermatologist prescribed Accutane to you. Were there other medications that they tried you on before giving you Accutane, if so how many and which ones. Also, how's your Accutane journey going?

I am in my second month of taking Tetracycline (this is the first prescription I have been given to combat acne), and I'm not seeing much of a difference in my skin. Maybe I just need to hold out longer, but I am getting impatient.

Any feedback would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

It depends on your dermatologist. Some hand out Accutane like candy. Some will have you try everything under the sun before resorting to Accutane. Some fall somewhere in between. What did your dermatologist say?

Two months on Tetracycline isn't that long so hopefully you'll notice improvement soon.

I tried pretty much everything before my doctor prescribed Accutane. I was on minocycline which is a antibiotic, and saw very little difference and I am also on the pill which did not help. Accutane is usually a last resort. If tetracycline does not work they will probley suggest accutane. I have also been on pretty much every topical treatment. I am on day 4 of accutane

after I saw my brothers beautiful results from accutane, I went to his derm. and told him I wanted the same thing. He saw that I had acne and I told him I had tried other stuff, but nothing had worked and I wanted to be rid of it for good! We started the process right then of getting me on the medicine, instead of him prescribing me half a million different topical creams. :)

I am 24 year old and have suffered from varying levels (mild to high/moderate) of acne for 10+ years. I was prescribed an oral antibiotic and topicals for several months. When those didn't do the job they increased the antibiotic, changed the topical, and gave me a hormonal treatment as well. Accutane was not discussed until my skin wasn't clear after 1 YEAR of treatment.

Hang in there and try the different things your dr. prescribes. Something beside accutane may work...you just need to be patient. : )

Same except for 11 years, less mino and some doxy totaling 2.5 years, no bc, apple cider vinegar and some glycolic/salicylic acid peels. I also did blue light therapy and somethings name that escapes me... it was basically extracting the zits one at a time though. I cannot remember the things I tried for the first maybe 3 or 4 years though as I was young, it was mostly OTC things with the occasional thing from the derm though. I have been going to the derm since I was 9 and Im now 20.

I had derms discuss accutane when I was a young teen/tween but my mother said no. Then I went to a derm specifically because she is known for giving it to anyone with acne who asks.

Acne is some pretty good stuff... :/

My first trip to the derm I was prescribed accutane. To be fair, I’d already tried numerous other prescriptions from my family doctor. The derm took one look at me, read my referral and told me she thought I’d be a good candidate for accutane. It was pretty much the same the second time round, although just through a different derm this time. It all depends on the doctor and what else you’ve tried.

Really depends on the Dermatologist. My previous one wouldn't prescribe Accutane AT ALL. He only dealt with topicals supposedly because his former patients had ruined it for others. Whatever that means.
