I use a salicylic acid foaming cleanser by DDF that was recommended to my sister at Sephora fragrance store, it contains azelaic acid as well... I find that using it 2x a day (morning + regimen, then shower + regimen in the afternoon) does not cause any more dryness that just the BP, it in fact makes my skin look a LOT better after I wash with it except once I put the BP on my red marks seem to reappear... anyways I have really dry skin, but the combination of BP + SA seems to work fine depending on what cleanser you end up using or what type of SA product

SA + BP works well for me. It's said to be irritating for some, but that's a statement that can be use on practically anything.
