Epidermal Growth Factor in Saliva. Interesting

Recommended Posts

Maybe we should be spitting on our scars? :-s

"EGF is produced in large quantities by the salivary glands and then is actively secreted in an exocrine manner into saliva"

"...salivary gland--derived EGF seems to play an important role in wound healing of skin and soft tissue as well as in maintaining organ homeostasis"

I think that everyone has heard of this in one way or the other. To "lick ones own wounds" is not just a saying. Many animals do the same thing. I believe this only works with fresh wounds though, and not the scars we're concerned with.
