Shoot_the_pianist 1 Share Posted November 24, 2008 Just wondered if anyone has any pain with their feet while on accutane? I have seen lots of posts from people with other side effects but not really heard of anyone with feet or heel pain. Did it persist or resolve? Did anyone ever investigate their heel pain any further? If anyone wishes to share their experiences it would be great.
Yo Adrienne! 5 Share Posted November 25, 2008 yeah I have this problem, especially if it is cold outside... or when i first wake up in the morning. my heel pain seems to come and go... is hasnt been constant or very severe
RuralClass 0 Share Posted November 25, 2008 Same for me. My heels only hurt right when I wake up in the morning, and they hurt a bit more than they used to if I'm, say, walking around the mall in semi-uncomfortable shoes. Totally bearable so far, and I'm almost three months in.
Siava 55 Share Posted November 25, 2008 I had sporadic pain on the tops of my feet (Tarsalmetatarsal joints) and in my heel (calcaneus bone). It hurt to walk barefoot. Thick socks helped.
cibanet 0 Share Posted November 25, 2008 Haha thats so weird. My heels hurt right when I wake up too! And then after I walk to the bathroom and back it seems to go away. Other than that though joint pains are a minumum for me anyways since I'm highly conditioned and weightlift/spring everyday.
gypsie 0 Share Posted November 25, 2008 I have noticed that I have been having alot of heel and feel pain - along with my joint pain. I didn't think it was from the accutane - I just thought I needed orthodics or something...but now that I think about it...I wonder if it is from the accutane... Kelli1982 0 Share Posted November 27, 2008 I had very bad joint pain in my foot knee and ankle the first 2 weeks of Accutane. I could barely put any weight on it them. Good thing it was all the same leg. lol I injured them in Gymnastics when I was younger they are always sore on and off before but the Accutane made it worse at first. It went away around a week and a half to two weeks and never came back and I walk around in heels. I did experience heel pain as well but like the others it was in the morning or after ive been sitting for awhile but once I was up and moving around it would stop.. It also aggravated my TMJ since being off my Jaw isnt as sore as it was but it still cracks and pops when eating but it did that even before my course. I have to get a mouth guard im a teeth grinder. lkessler 0 Share Posted July 31, 2015 I know this is an older post but just finished 6 months of accutane. Around the first month I had extreme heel pain and ended up going to a podiatrist. He diagnosed me with Baxters Neurosis which is inflammation of the nerves. The description of the pain all of you have experienced is EXACTLY what I have been feeling. My Derm recommend taking 1 accutane pill a week to keep it in my system but afraid it's making my feet continue to hurt. It's only been 3 weeks since I went off taking accutane twice a day but I'm looking for advice on how to reduce/eliminate the foot pain completely. Does anyone have any advice because I can't run and am always in some sort of pain!
JQ3 1 Share Posted December 1, 2016 lkessler- anything more on this? I have pain on the backs of my feet/heels when I wake up, and here and there throughout the day... nothing crazy but just noticeable. How did yours turn out? What did you do? Does anyone else have anything on this? I am trying to find out whether I need to get off accutane or not. I have dry itchy hair, this foot pain, and dry skin/lips, and dark circles around my eyes. I am a little worried and concerned.. but my derm said that the foot pain and the dark circles they have never heard of.
Garindan 1 Share Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) I have had bad foot pain as a result of Accutane. I went to urgent care in October, was on crutches for three weeks, had three sets of x-rays, an ultrasound and an MRI. I could not put weight on my left foot. It disabled me. I stopped taking Accutane in November per my other doctor's (not my dermatologist) recommendation to stop taking it. I am still experiencing foot pain in January. I went to an orthopedic foot specialist and a rheumatologist. My tests showed no fracture or rheumatoid issues. My doctor believes it is the Accutane that caused my foot pain. I am very concerned. oli girl 178 Share Posted January 11, 2017 Accutane is known to cause bone, tendon, muscle and joint problems. It's known to dry up the fluid of the joints, bones etc. in some. I had feet problems, Achilles etc. I did physical therapy, Hyaluronic Acid, Vit D and a very clean diet. It took a long long time. It is not uncommon, I heard of people who had problems and it doesn't surprise me that your derm said that. As for the dark circles, Accutane can thin the skin. Not sure on your dose, length of time or severity of acne, but you may need to stop. I mean the thing is I can't promise your foot issue will go away, or continuing Accutane that your acne will go away forever. Good Luck!
Kimbell 0 Share Posted January 18, 2017 I have been on Accutane for 2 months now and am having heel pain as well as Achilles' tendon pain. It's worse in the morning but there most of the time in and off. I was blaming footwear at first but it's the same with anything on my feet. Not walking very well with that and other joint/back pain at times!
Bernie Thompson 0 Share Posted March 15, 2017 Im having this one right now and both of my heels hurt so bad. its difficult, when your work needs you to stand all day. cant even walk normal ;( Almost done with my 1 month on accutane 60 mg. GlowWorm 0 Share Posted May 26, 2017 I'm literally laying here in pain while I read everyone's responses. I am starting my fifth months and my joint pain is out of this world. I wish I only suffered in the morning. Unfortunately, I feel pain in my Achilles every time I run, sit too long and try to stand up, and get out of bed. I know I should stop, but I keep telling myself to press on because I have made it this far. But the pain.... I started taking glucosamine with vitamin D. I will give that a few days and see if that helps. I drink a ton of water (about a gallon a day) and even that isn't giving me any reprieve. I can push through the pain, but I'm concerned that this may not go away after I get off the Accutane or what if I'm causing myself nerve/joint damage by running? I can't imagine living with this pain the rest of my life. I now know what it's like to have arthritis.
Eric_panda 0 Share Posted June 6, 2017 I have the exact same problem. i have been on accutane for 5 weeks now but at a low dose only 10mg per day. but my joints and feet is acting all weird. it hurts, today I noticed that the tips of my toes starting to hurt and feel really sensitive. When I touch or massage my feet and toes to eleviate the pain, it starts throbbing a bit which is concerning me. I want to push through and continue with the accutane but not at the cost of doing permanent damage to my bones and nerves as I dont want to be living in this condition for the rest of my life. just not worth it if this side effect is going to be permanent. I know the accuane has done something to the nerves in my feet or something. my calves feels super sensitive and raw too, feels like I have run a marathon and calve muscle is aching and sore to the touch. has anyone had this problem and does it go away after stopping accutane? should I just stop the accutane all together? am worried. we all want nice clear skin but not at the cost of not being able to walk, run and dance. what kind of life would that be?? I have an appointment with my podiatrist tomorrow! Please tell me there's a light at the end of the tunnel!!!! Did the pain ever go away for you on its own? or did you have to stop accutane completely for the pain to go away? I would really appreciate your advice

Hi!! how are you doing on your journey? how clear has your skin gotten? im on day 42, praying and hopping for the best Hi there!! im on day 54 as of today and my skin is clear i started to notice clear skin in the 1 month in, i was suprised yet happy on how fast it started to work on me, i am going to see my derm on Oct and i go for blood work next week so i hope it comes back normal so i can keep taking 40 mg daily, my lips are good, i apply vaseline alot during the dfay and before bed they are dry but manageable, vaseline has helped so much, my feet hurt heels but manageable, mild muscle pain, constipation, hemorrhoids issue was very painfull about a month in i take benefibre daily twice a day to try to get better, but i have been okay and hope not to suffer like i did again it was horrible and scary cuz i never had issues before, my skin on my face is not dry like some ppl maybe it will get dryer but right now its great i dont even need moisturizer even though i still apply it, the fears i had of the horrible lips and dry skin i honestly feared reading this but i have been lucky so far, i hope it doesn't get worse. I just hope to complete this 6 months feeling healthy and with great long lasting results, how are you doing?

Adele105 0 Share Posted August 3, 2018 So glad I'm not the only one dealing with this after starting Accutane.. I did 5 months on Accutane starting with 20mg then up to 40mg 2 months in I started to get severe pain in my heels to the point I could barely walk and taking shoes off would be so painful I went to my dermatologist and she said that it shouldn't be a side effect but if it is give it time to heal..I knew for a fact that pill had something to do with it..I've been off Accutane for best part of a year and I'm still getting heal pain but severe on my right foot! I thought maybe stopping it and in time it would be better but last few days I can barely put weight on my right foot and im in agony! I'm worried to go back to work as I'm a carer and on my feet for atleast 12 hours+ and comfy shoes only help for a while..Is anyone who's come off Accutane still suffering months after?? If anyone could suggest what could help that would be great!
