Does the purpose cleanser wash off makeup well? I'm trying to find a good cheap one. I've used Neutrogena Fresh Cleansing Foam (or something like that) and Alpha Hydrox's Nourishing Cleanser, but would love to find a cheap one. The St. Ives Makeup remover is horrible by the way.

I don't wear too much make up. It does take off the concealer when I use that. Normally, I only do eye make up and that always washes off well.

day 94.

Still feeling the same... the Purpose cleanser does feel better on my skin though. So I guess we will see if it helps with redness, flakiness, and effectiveness of the BP.

I don't even know who reads this anymore...

I've only heard good things about the purpose cleanser, so hopefully you will only experience good things. :D

So far I like it. Plus, my dad works for johnson & johnson :)

I just joined today and read your log, and i have to say that you have dramatically improved since the beginning. I know when you look at youself everyday, its hard to see this dramatic change, but trust me, keep it up. I was just wondering what your diet is like and if your taking any supplements, like zinc, vitamin A, beta carotene (which is better than Vitamin A), vitamin B6, or flaxseed oil? they might help, since acne is not just an external thing...

Ultimately, you have inspired me to order this stuff and start my own regimen. Thanks, and good luck!! stay positive.

Thank you for the encouragement! I really appreciate it! I do take nicomide tablets in the morning.

It has...

Nicotinamide, USP 750 mg

Zinc Oxide, USP 25 mg

Cupric Oxide, USP 1.5 mg

Folic Acid, USP 500 mcg

Guess that it helps...

day 95.

I'm liking the Purpose cleanser so far... only been the 4th wash though. Things are healing nicely from my last pick-fest. I was wondering if anyone knows what to put on the under the skin type whiteheads? They just sit on my face in certain places but don't go anywhere, they don't erupt, they don't hurt.

I have a few of them. Also, I think that I'm now combating the acne that I got from the Dove Cleanser.

Other than that, I think the cleanser is working nicely as far as redness and flakiness. Oh, I've also stopped using the jojoba oil with my moisturizer. It was making my face too oily and made it look more red.

Hmm... I'm thinking about taking some zinc. I hear it helps with acne and building a strong immune system.

day 96.

Popped like 3 whiteheads last night. I know you're not supposed to, but I hate having them sticking out. I do believe that I'm combating the acne that the Dove Cleanser caused. I think the purpose cleanser is bringing all that up with the BP and hopefully, once all that is healed, I will actually be clear completely for the first time on this regimen. My face is definitely smoother since using the Purpose Cleanser.

Also, I have stopped using the AHA at all. I think my dark spots/red marks are healing just the same with or without it. I'm doing a very basic regimen to see how it works.

Nothing other than the prescribed reg by Dan.

wow, the redness of your skin is pretty much obvious. compare it with your neck. it's like your skin is screaming for help or something. and it's with dim light too, what more with strong lighting? take a picture with your friends and your face will stand out, though this time not with acne but with unnatural looking face. I'm not trying to discourage you but just pointing out important things that you might be missing. I've been there and I'd rather have a couple of pimples than a unnatural looking face.

Well, in any case, good luck to you! I'm hoping the best would turn out later.

you stopped the jojoba? interesting. i just started adding it and it's helping a lot with the flaking. i am not able to go up to the full dose of BP, though, without getting red. so i'm on 1 pump BP at night and 1/2 pump in the morning, and i look tan (that's the redness) and the jojoba oil is doing a nice job on flaking.

your acne is looking so much better!! i know you badly want to be completely clear for your wedding, but your skin looks fantastic and any small issues (redness, flaking, or small breakouts) can completely be dealt with by makeup. your face will look fabulous!

Well, what do you suggest? If I stop the BP I will be back at square one I guess. When I was on proactive, I didn't have this red of a face. I wonder why?

Nah, if you can stand the redness in exchange for clear skin then stick with it. Follow morah, makeup is probably the cover up you'll need.

day 97.

I skipped BP last night and just cleansed and moisturized. I'm going to skip BP this morning too. I may put some on tonight, but just a thin layer if anything. I don't want a red & peely face anymore. Maybe Dan's regimen in too much for my face. I know proactive was supposed to be harsher, but it worked better for me for some reason, so I think I'm going to start that when my face actually turns back the correct color.

I'm ready for the big breakout.

I'm using Purpose Cleanser and Complex 15 moisturizer. Even without BP last night, my face is flakey this morning. I hear it takes like a week or longer for your face to normalize... Anyone have experience with this?

I'm wondering if while I'm just cleansing and moisturizing, if I should use the Alpha Hydrox Cleanser I have under the sink, It is unopened.

Does anyone have any experience switching abruptly to Salicylic Acid wash?

I did give Dans reg a good 3 months, still getting pimples everyday and my face is red, peely, and flakey. Dang it, I really thought this was my ticket to a clear face.

So I have been off BP for 3 solid days. I'm not sure when I'm supposed to break out, but my face looks much better these past 3 days then any of the days on the regimen. I'm using Purpose Cleanser and Complex 15 moisturizer 2x daily. After about a week or so, once my face has recovered from the peeling and redness completely, I'm going to try a salicylic acid cleanser to see if that keeps things under control. Since my acne is mild, I'm hoping that will work. I just can't stay on BP forever. It's too drying and caused my face so much irritation. Wish me luck!

I do wish you luck! I've been keeping up, I just don't say much, but I'm glad the redness has gone down for you.

Here's hoping you don't start breaking out, but if you do, that you have time to catch it again!

day 101.

day 4 without BP.

Alright, so I think it's time to implement a new regimen of some type. I think my face has recovered quite well so far. Redness is gone, flakes are minimal.

I'm up for suggestions.

Has anyone had success with anything after doing Proactive or Dan's? I know my face will not stay clear without some acne wash, or treatment.

I'm having some thoughts as to using a Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash of some type with 2% salicylic acid.

Here are pictures of where I am...

Alright, got my first big pimple. It hurts and it's under the skin. I pushed on it which was stupid, I wish I didn't. I didn't break skin around it for once though. I'm guessing it's going to be enormous tomorrow.

I'm thinking I may try a Clearasil Cleanser to see what it does. This sucks. It's either a red, irritated face on Dan's, or huge cystic acne. Not fair.

Maybe I should start over with Dan's regimen and just use a litttttle bit of BP for the first 3 weeks to see what happens.

I just didn't like a red flakey face.

Day 12! Almost to 2 full weeks on this regimen! Hooray! I'm still flaking like crazy! I'm using jojoba oil, but I don't think it's working as good as it should. Does anyone have any other options for flakes? I did order some AHA yesterday, but I'm not going to use it until after 4 weeks, as instructed on the site.

I think it's still doing well. I have a Christmas party to go to tonight and I think I only have 1 real scab that I'm not going to touch today!

More pictures!

Thank you everyone for the support!

i think you should moisturize at night. so you don't give your skin a chance to dry out.

day who knows.

I haven't used BP for 1 solid week now and my face has really only gotten 1 big under the skin blemish since. I'm sure it's from 2 things, no more BP and a big stressful evening last week.

I'm now just washing with Clean & Clear Oil Free Acne Cleanser. So far I think it's working well. If I can make it through another week without any problems, maybe the irritation of all the chemical products I had on my face was causing the acne.

Once I get rid of this huge blemish on my cheek, I will be 100% free of active acne. So weird.

My face isn't peeling anymore and it is normal color.

Wedding is 71 days away. If I look like I do today without the one big blemish on my face, I will be 100% happy with my wedding day!

I'll keep up with my progress as it goes...

Thank you all for all your kind words and encouragement. I truly appreciate it all.

hey everyone!

So I wanted to give folks an update to what I have been doing lately with my face. After I stopped using Dan's regimen, I washed with only Purpose cleanser and used moisturizer for about 5 days. I started to really break back out.

I got Clearasil Ultra daily face wash to see how my skin would react to Salycylic Acid. It definitely didn't like that. I started breaking out with little whiteheads everywhere.

Now... giving all that up. I'm back to using BP. Not Dan's BP regimen, but just OXY MAX STRENGTH DAILY WASH. It has 10% BP in it's wash, but I don't have to leave BP all over my face all day.

I've been using it for 3-4 days now and my face has improved dramatically! It is cleaning up all those little spots the Clearasil crap did to my face. It isn't causing as much irritation as Dan's regimen did either. Also, my face is smoother.

I only have a few spots left to clear up and hopefully continued use will keep my face clear. I'll update in a few weeks to let you guys know how things are progressing. It is nice to figure out that only BP actually keeps my acne in control.

That is good to figure out, and I'm glad you found something that works for you! Your wedding isn't til May, right? So you do still have a bit of time to get it all sorted out :)

I'm hoping my face doesn't start with redness and flaking after being on the regimen. So far, its been really good, but I'm a little worried it'll go the way your skin did. Were you sensitive when you first started?

Nice job Tara on finding a new solution for your self.

As for me, I'm too scared to mess with the regimen haha. I refuse to make any changes until summer vacation when school is out.

Yeah, my face started getting really red when I first used the regimen. Especially noticeable once I used the moisturizer. It made my face look super greasy and bright red! Also, on the regimen, my face was super oily by the end of the day, which is weird bc I was using a lot of BP. On Oxy, my face is smooth, not peely, or red. Strange bc it has 10% BP. Must be bc I don't have to leave it on all day. It's a simple 2 times a day wash.

I have 60 days until my wedding and I feel a lot more confident even after a few days using OXY. I hope it continues! Fingers crossed!!

So you don't apply any moisturizer after using this new wash then? Simply washing twice a day and that's it? No dryness or flakiness? Sorry for the multiple questions, but I've been trying to go without BP since the beginning of the year and it's simply not working out very well. Plus, I've never used a 10% BP product, just 2.5%. I just applied the DKR for the first time in a while tonight. I had an explosion of whiteheads around the mouth after trying salicylic acid. If this wash you speak of continues to impress, I just may give it a shot myself. Something simple, yet effective would be great. Continued success and best of luck!
