Problem with Acne Scars

I need advice on the best procedure to get rid of my acne scars. I have done much research but still very confused on the best option that will give the best results. I have a combination of icepick, box, and chicken pox scars. I am 32 and have been dealing with acne since I was 10. Well, the acne has minimized but now I am left with tons of reminders on my face. I've always been told I'd be pretty if it weren't for my scar face. I don't have insurance and don't really have the money. I will do whatever it takes to get the money. I need to get something done to fix this problem. My self esteem is ridiculous. I don't want my kids to grow up remembering their mom this way. My kids are 11 and 5 and we have never had a family picture done. I can't stand to see myself in pictures. Any advice on a procedure that will really work? Thank you for any suggestions.

Many people on this forum know what you are going through. Unfortunately there is no simple solution to severe acne scarring.

If you have severe scarring you can't expect amazing results. The more shallow your scars are the better your chances of seeing improvements. Keep in mind there are a lot of unique factors that determine each persons results: the quality and skill of the doctor, the way each person's skin reacts to treatment, the different types of scars each person has, etc.

I'm not trying to be a downer. You should be excited and hopeful, but also realistic.

What kind of scars do you have, how severe are they? The type and severity of yur scars will help you determine your treatment.

Laser treatments are pretty expensive. Most people feel that the lower level lasers such as Fraxel Restore, aren't worth the money and do little to improve their scars. However, CO2 lasers (more expensive, more downtime, they are ablative- they peel away a layer of skin) seem to get better results. If your going to get a CO2 treatment, you want to get a fractionated CO2 laser (such as Active Fx/Deep Fx or Fraxel Repair) because these lasers have a lower risk of side effects (it does not eliminate the potential for side effects).

A lot of people seem to be getting good reults on their ice pick scarring usinf TCA Cross. Subscision seems to work well on rolling scars.

Here is some information I find helpful:

Ask around and go to the best dermatologist for acne scars that you can find. See what they say. Good luck!!!!
