Dosage of Accutane

Hi everyone. I'm new to posting on this forum, but have read it carefully over the past few months.

I just have one question. I recently got a prescription for Accutane and plan on starting with it as soon as possible.

My insurance sucks (super high deductible and does not cover any prescription drugs until the deductible is met (not even generic drugs)).

My dermatologist prescribed 20mg x 3/day of the generic Accutane drug. The cost for this is about $361 for this month's supply.

My question is: Is there a reason to take 20mg x 3/day? Is it because it's my first month on Accutane? What would be the difference if I took 40mg + 20mg or just one 60mg pill?

Thanks guys :)

I ran into a similar situation with my insurance company. They would only cover 2 pills per day instead of my prescribed 3. I called the doctor and told her the issue and all she did was rewrite the prescription. In my situation it was perfectly fine to take 2 pills instead of three at the same dosage. I'd definitely suggest asking your doctor- it would be much more cost effective!

Thanks! :) I called my dermatologist and she changed the prescription to 40mg and 20mg. Saves me about $110/month.
