Elsewhere 33 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Alright, so after 7 years of being on the Depo, I stopped taking it and my body has seen fit to return to it's childbearing state. My question is this:Is their a way to shorten the length of a tampon, perhaps by cutting a little of the top off with a pair of scissors? Or would that allow loose strands of cotton to work themselves free in my vaginal canal? (Which would be bad). Is there a brand of specifically "short" tampons out there? (I'm currently using one that's "slender")I've never, ever worn tampons before - I could always feel them at the bottom of my canal when I sat down, no matter how far in I got them. Still, after 7 years of being sans period (and sans "It says it's a discreet pad but it's still a stupid fucking diaper"), I'm trying out the tampon thing again - with much of the same problem as I had before. I've just got a really short canal, and I would LOVE to be more comfertable. I'm already seriously enjoying the lack of a diaper feeling, and just want to get rid of this last nagging bit of trouble with the whole tampon thing.Or is this the trade-off I get for not wearing pads? I hear some gals say they get used to it, but I really don't think I could.....but I don't want to go back to pads, either.
ashleyms 0 Share Posted August 25, 2008 I think - I'm not positive - but I think O.B. makes shorter tampons? Or you could try the kind that come in "candy bar size" wrappers, I think those are shorter.
Siouxsie 7 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Have you heard of diva cups? They look pretty good to me. I don't think they're as long as tampons.
Elsewhere 33 Author Share Posted August 25, 2008 Both of those are good suggestions, thank you. I've been looking at other sites and lots of girls rave about the Diva Cup - my only concern would that it would be too big to comfertably fit. I'm going to see if you can order a trial sized sample of the Diva Cup, maybe just enough for one use to see if I like it.And I bought tampax, thinking that I was getting one without the applicator - next time, I go OB. (since I not only wound up with an applicator, but a carboard one that has kind of sharp edges around the top of the tampon!)
brandolynn 287 Share Posted August 25, 2008 I agree with the OB tampon recommendation. They are very small. Only problem is you have to insert it with your fingers (no applicator). If you're cool with that, they should work well for you due to their small size.
MarsBars 0 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Tampax Lites are also quite small and come with an applicator.
Rai 1 Share Posted August 25, 2008 OB for sure! I had the same problem as you and then I went to the ob's without the applicator and haven't turned back. ha hap.s. get the ones that say 'silk touch' if you can find it in the smallest size.
automattox 1 Share Posted August 25, 2008 I had been using OB for several months but it kept giving me yeast infections, ick. I guess that's just me personally though, my mom's been using them for years and has never had a problem with them. They are a bit shorter though, but I find them a little difficult to put in place since there's no applicator. You could also try the travel size Tampax has. I never tried them personally, but I love Tampax and I happened to see them in the store last month and they looked alot smaller
Elsewhere 33 Author Share Posted August 25, 2008 Thank you guys so much for these suggestions! I'm definately going to try OB next, and keep in mind the travel sized tampax ones! I've been removing the damn carboard applictor in the ones I got anyways, so that's something to keep in mind.

I'm going to see if you can order a trial sized sample of the Diva Cup, maybe just enough for one use to see if I like it. Hi there, I'm a cup user, tho not the Diva brand. The DivaCup is one of the longest cups on the market so if you have a short canal you probably want to try a different one. Here are some helpful links to learn more: Measurements and pics: http://afriska-engl.de.tl/Different-brands-and-sizes.htm In depth reviews/comparisons of most cups: http://menstrualcups.wordpress.com/category/comparisons/ And the LiveJournal menstrual cup community is really helpful: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/ I use the large LadyCup and as long as you don't have a heavy flow, I think the small LadyCup would work well for you (you can cut the stem off to make it even shorter). You can get it on ebay. HTH!
veggie girl 1 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I used OB for nearly 20yrs and always felt them. Now I have (and ) a Diva Cup! While it may seem big (I was horrified when I first saw it!), you can trim the bottom "stem" with scissors so you don't feel it. It took me about a week learning curve to get it right so I didn't feel it and it didn't leak.I wish I had known about cups when I was teen, they make life so much easier and they are eco-friendly, not to mention it somehow stops my cramps. Sweetpeas 0 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I'm interested in getting a cup! But how do you put them in? Also, does it affect it when you go to the toilet?
ashleyms 0 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I also have a Diva Cup but it's hard for me to put it in right and take it out right. Plus it gets really messy for me :\ I end up (this is probably TMI, sorry) with blood all over my hand. Eww..so I went back to tampons. Still have my cup though. Elsewhere 33 Author Share Posted August 27, 2008 Worry not, it's a thread in which I asked about tampons. It's okay for a little TMI concerning how we deal with our periods.
elfgirl 2 Share Posted August 27, 2008 I love OB's. I have used them for almost 20yrs also and never felt them, never had one leak. They are the only ones that have the Ultra size. Elf
Lutya 0 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I'm interested in getting a cup! But how do you put them in? Also, does it affect it when you go to the toilet? It takes some practice but if you can use a tampon, you can use a cup. And some people can go both pee and poo with it in but some people have to remove it for poo. I've been able to do both with it in. Seriously, anyone interested or with questions, go here: And the LiveJournal menstrual cup community is really helpful: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/ Also, in case anyone is on the verge of buying...I have searched far and wide for the best price for the Diva Cup and it seems to be www.iherb.com. Total cost after the coupon code: $15.49 including shipping! Coupon code: KIN087 for $5 off your first order of any amount. I know that the code is good through the end of August but it might be good longer than that. http://www.iherb.com/Search.aspx?c=1&s...amp;kw=diva+cup

dsrfgsertwe 2 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Don't know if they make them anymore, but when I first got mine I used "junior" tampons which were shorter. I think they were made by Playtex.
pinkshoeaddict 0 Share Posted August 29, 2008 "Junior" is now one of the standardized absorbency terms used to describe the least absorbent tampon.
