Paranoid or is it true?

You always see these masturbating causes acne threads coming up, and ive never wanted to believe it but im starting to get abit concerned now. Everytime i have masturbated i have a fairly big spot come up on my chin, im really starting to believe they are related. But why would masturbating cause acne and what can you do to stop it, without having to stop masturbating

You'll have to try it for yourself because some say it affects them. I personally think my skin looks better the more sex im having but hey, everone is different. Is it really that hard to not jerk off for like 2 weeks to find out? I'm not sure what youd do if this were the case. Never have sex or masturbate? thats not feasible or healthy really

Masturbating doesn't cause acne, in fact what's more likely is those people who see acne flares after masturbating are breaking out more (or breaking out after a clear period) due to the stress they are experiencing from worrying (or feeling guilt [a known stressor]) about masturbating causing an acne flare up.

Tidbit: People have been masturbating for thousands upon thousands of years, the body is well equipped to deal with any negligible hormonal changes (or other changes in body chemistry) as a result of masturbation (even a sick body). To clarify, if masturbation was a cause of acne, we'd have known a long long time ago as the obvious aftereffects (now in dispute) would not need to be scientifically verified.

dude I haven't masturbated in over two weeks and I feel great. I mean I use to do it regularly, and I would be tried a lot, but after a few weeks I feel great. You should try it.. just keep yourself busy!!!

Why on earth would masturbation cause acne more than any other form of sex?

I think it's just teenagers tend to masturbate, and teenagers tend to get acne.

Well actually masturbation is practiced by almost everyone including preteenagers, parents and married people. There's no correlation between amount of sexual activity with a partner and amount of masturbation. But as far as I know when people say that masturbation triggers acne they also mean sexual activity of every kind.

I wonder...would masturbation behaviors be different without the internet? If you masturbate to porn on your computer, well, you hardly would have been able to do that even 25 years ago.

Without the internet people would masturbate to fantasies or just masturbate without any trigger.

In the 40's there were semi-pornographic pictures in black and white and people would often look at those. Nowadays they would appear bland even to a baby.

It effects me and a bunch of others on this site.

Of course it affects you and others, it just doesn't cause acne.

You seem a little too sure about it....I don't think you know what you're talking about.

I think OVER-masturbating can definitely cause acne, as you lose a LOT of different nutrients when you have an orgasm, not to mention the hormonal aspect. The whole argument that "humans are equipped for the hormonal changes" is silly. The fact is, masturbating daily or multiple times a day not only effects hormonal balance but nutrients as well. Yes, humans are equipped to "autobalance" a lot of these chemicals on their own but with excesive masturbation the human body is not accustomed to that amount of hormone and nutrient fluctuation.

There is a large list of nutrients that you expel from your body when you have an orgasm including Zinc, Vitamin C, Magnesium to name a few which all have positive effects on the skin and collagen production.

Some bodies are better at "re-balancing" these I'm sure but with many people, especially with poor diets, they are letting out a lot of nutrients when they masturbate too often and effecting their hormones, which in turn makes them more sensitive to possible break outs.

With that said...I don't think every single person who masturbates every day is going to get horrible acne from it but there definitely is a link between Acne, Hormones and Nutrients and the latter two are heavily effected from constant masturbation.

That's like telling someone that they're "A little too sure" that 2+2=4, and that they don't know what they're talking about.

I think OVER-masturbating can definitely cause acne,

Does it also cause permanent blindness or just temporary as well?

Here's a hint: You're beating it too much when it gets red and/or hurts......and yet it still won't cause acne.

What's more likely? Answer: When a person masturbates excessively it is more likely they will develop acne (or skin problems in general) as a result of skipping meals, less sleep, guilt (stressor), etc.

as you lose a LOT of different nutrients when you have an orgasm, not to mention the hormonal aspect

The loss of nutrients is negligible from either sexual intercourse with a partner or via masturbation. What nutrient loss that does occur does not persist over a significant period of time or in significant enough quantities as to cause acne or other skin conditions. The exception to this would be if the person has a poor diet that does not replenish the lost nutrients.

Hormonal changes during both intercourse and masturbation are proven to be significant, however they are not only expected by the human body but also proven to be positive in nature, not negative. It is possible and likely though for skin problems to develop as a result of hormonal changes due to masturbation when another condition exists such a insufficient nutrient intake, sleep, disease/conditions, etc. So again to be clear, it isn't the act or result of masturbation that causes acne, however masturbation can be a last straw so to speak as far as the body is concerned, thus masturbation is never a direct cause of acne.

Riiight. Because it's an 100%, sure proven science and in your example, a proven equation that masturbation has no link to acne or skin regeneration, right?

Simply not a valid point at all.

Hi Mr. Black and White, I'm Grey.

Does it also cause permanent blindness or just temporary as well?

Here's a hint: You're beating it too much when it gets red and/or hurts......and yet it still won't cause acne.

You stretched pretty far with those examples, haha...Wow. So excessive masturbation can lead to not eating, sleeping and being guilty about it? It's not crack cocaine buddy, it's jerking off. Those example are absurd and have absolutely nothing to do with the point I'm trying to make.

My point is simply that excessive masturbation/sex for *CERTAIN PEOPLE* with *CERTAIN DIET/HORMONE BALANCES* can lead to weaker skin and collagen production which CAN lead to a breakout. The factor of hormones also probably effects women more but it's certainly a factor for certain people at certain times of the year. It also obviously effects teens going through puberty the most.

I'm not referring to single act of masturbation or sex. I'm talking about every day, even multiple times a day. When I was a teen, I masturbated a ton, multiple times per day and I'm sure many other people did too and I'm certain it did not help my skin. Like anything in this life, moderation is key.

And yes, diet is a large factor as well, probably one of the biggest. It's not simply an "exception" like you say, it's extremely common, especially in America, where people have poor diets that lack many nutrients to begin with.

So you basically agree that the combination of masturbation and a lacking diet can lead to acne, or atleast increase your skins chances of being more sensitive to obtaining acne. That was a main point I was trying to make. Thanks.

No, it's not a "direct" cause of acne, although when taken out of the equation you'd never have certain breakouts to begin with(again, depending on the person of course). So in that sense it can be a cause of acne but not a "direct" cause since you want to be technical. Either way, a cause is a cause.

That's like saying someone who has psychological problems who started taking medication was fine without the medication then they started taking the medication and went insane. OH it's not the medications fault they went insane right? Well, yeah it is, even though the person had psychological problems to begin with, he/she would have never been pushed to that level without the factor of medication. Yay for analogies.

Don't get me wrong. I love sex and masturbation and I practice both regularly. Luckily I practice sex more than masturbation lately, being in college and all I get girls on a regular basis. These days I don't see much of a link between sex/masturbation and acne but then again I've changed my diet and I've gone through puberty and hormonal changes. I also don't jerk off 5 times a day like I used to back in high school, whilst going through hormonal changes nonetheless.

For some people, especially teens, with poor diets and hormonal shifts due to puberty masturbating excessively can simply increase the chances the skin will not be able to fight off a breakout and also may hinder it from healing old marks faster.

You can't simply make the declarative statement that "Masturbation is never a direct cause of acne" because you can't prove that. What IS proven is that masturbation, (especially excessive amounts of it) in some more than others, does lead to hormonal and nutrient changes. It won't effect everyone substantially but some people will see deficiencies in certain vitamins that will make the skin more prone to breakouts and of course for some, hormones themselves can lead to new breakouts. Those are proven statements. I haven't really seen anything you've said to be scientifically backed or proven or anything supporting your "2+2=4" argument.

Im pretty certain its down to masturbating now. It was at the weekend i believe, i had one on one day and also the next day as well. When one appeared on my chin i was convinced its down to this, and now 2 more have appeared have appeared on my chin. They are always big ones as well, and i know this happened a couple of weeks ago as well. Im now believing theres no doubts at all that this is defiently down to masturbating.

I masturbated a couple of days to test things out, and as to no surprise there is now a big-ish spot appearing on my chin. Im pretty sure now that masturbating is most defiently causing the acne on my chin. Other than to stop masturbating i actually have no idea what i else i can try to stop the connection between them, as i dont want to stop masturbating my whole life.......

for some people yes it can, i know in my case it was giving me cystic acne and nothing ever worked to get rid of it and i stopped for two weeks clearest my face has ever been, and its now been one month and only done it once, but for some reason, it seems like if i dont watch porn i dont break out , but ive quit doing it basically, but yes it too much masturbating cuases a surge of hormones in the body if ur still young or well still developing. you should stop for one whole month

Through a bit a research on Google, orgasm apparently leads to a transient increase in DHT and cortisol as well as an increase in prolactin that can last up to a week. This might not effect everyone but it sure helps to abstain for a couple weeks at a time. Apparently you can also still masturbate as long as you can keep yourself from going to far. Good luck with that however.

I've always thought this theory is pure garbage, but lately I learned about 'sexual transmutation'. Now don't ask me too much about it, but the theory goes that when men ejaculate they lose energy or vitality. If you keep that energy in you it's going to improve your health, creativity and many other aspects of your life.

I know Napoleon Hill mentioned it in his book Think and Grow Rich and apparently many other successful people have sworn by it also.

So if there is a link, that could explain it.

In the 40's there were semi-pornographic pictures in black and white and people would often look at those. Nowadays they would appear bland even to a baby.

i defenately agree to what sepsi suggest in the theory that when man loses semen, he loses vital energy, this is the chinese theory and is debatable but the more i read the more i believe, they suggest that man should retain semen as much as possible to retain strength, health and vitilaty, this is used to promote longivity. excessive masterbation loses essence and ages you faster and faster as you get older, they promote sexual intercourse, because it balances essence of both sexes, but still suggest man should refrain from orgasm as much as possible, intrestingly its quite the opposite for females they should orgasm more frequently, u may think this is complete nonesense but dont i dont rule anything out until 100 per cent sure

Masturbation is correlated with acne, but doesn't cause it.

The same hormonal changes that cause an increased sex drive cause acne as well.

You think your masturbation is causing the acne, but really they're both causes of hormonal changes.

And I didn't mean that sex is bad or that you shouldn't have sex. Sex is fun and can really get your energy going. Too frequent ejaculation for men is bad - according to the theory. I'm trying it but it's still way too early to say. And even as a man you should be able to have an orgasm without ejaculation. It apparently just takes a bit of practice.

you could be losing amino acids and zinc from your sperm, this may be affecting other processes that influence your rate and nature of acne.

its so unlikely that it is the cause tho.

Are people denying the possibility of a connection because they don't want there to be a connection?

Hmmm...

Because if there were a connection then we'd have to face the fact and do something about it. We just couldn't mentally brush aside the issue and say it has nothing to do with my skin.

Not that I'm saying there's a connection. I think there could very well be, but not sure.

It's just that most of the nay-arguments here are very superficial. None of really has any evidence or knowledge to point to either direction.

I'm just getting the feeling that most people deny the connection because they don't want there to be one.

Just a wacky thought...

Theres defiently a connection with me, but i agree with what other posters have said. Its not the absolute cause for acne, but due to things that are happening in the body, masturbating effects this and causes an outbreak.
