Cortisone is NOT an appropriate longterm treatment for acne! topical Hydrocortisone is used for limited periods to lessen swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions. As I understand it - it has no antibacterial activity and therefore will have NOT Kill p.acnes bacteria. Cortisone is a steroid and misuse causes side effects....

Local side effects of topical steroids include: Skin thinning (atrophy) and stretch marks (striae).

Easy bruising and tearing of the skin.

Perioral dermatitis (rash around the mouth).

Enlarged blood vessels (telangiectasia).

Susceptibility to skin infections.

Allergy to the steroid cream.

There are also a raft of much more severe side effects with potent steriod use like Cushings Syndrome, Adrenal Gland Malfunction, Kideny damage blah blah.
