Really wanna try IPL, but broke. Should I?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I actually have my very first IPL appmt booked for next wednesday...

It will be $250 per session, and I booked three sessions...

I'm still in my early 20s, and $750 is a lot of money for me.

So i really wanted to make sure this will help with my acne scarring.

I don't have any vein problems or rosacea at all. It's purely for acne scars.

Some are brownish, some are red, some are flat, some are raised slightly.

I don't get little pimples, i get the MEGA SIZE cystic acne.

I only get one or two at a time, but every single one of them scarred on me

so i look like i have tons. but they are just all old scars.

My derm said IPL would help, but to be honest, i don't really trust her...

She's always trying to get me to buy stuff or do stuff that costs a lot..so...

I thought I would splurge on IPL if it really worked.

I would LOVE to hear from ppl who had it done already, bad or good.

Thank you!

Hi there,

I've had IPL treatments for rosacea (which was confined to my nose) and it worked like a miracle, ending 12 years of red-nosed misery for me. However, I also had IPL done on my chin (as I was told it would help with redness from past breakouts etc) and it was not useful on my chin for that purpose.

What you described sounds like hyperpigmentation from past breakouts-and I don't believe IPL will affect those. Have you ever tried Neosporin cream? (not the ointment-that will make you break out-but the cream is noncomedogenic). It helps red marks from old breakouts heal just like the advertised ointment helps wounds heal faster.

My derm said IPL would help, but to be honest, i don't really trust her...

After I read that, I would definitely advise you NOT to give her 750$ for IPL :)

I'm not sure it would help and the fact that she doesn't seem trustworthy is a huge indicator that you should save your money. IPL is helpful for rosacea and veins but-just speaking from personal experience-it didn't have any effect whatsoever on my past red marks.

If they are truly marks from past breakouts, your derm already knows that they heal over time and if you didn't see results from the IPL right away, she would probably tell you to "give it more time" or "that's because you didn't get IPL in conjunction with products A, B, and C which I also happen to sell"
