Might have cured my folliculitis

Recommended Posts

I really appreciate the help RBS. I'm scheduled for my next derm appt in 3 weeks, but am trying to get in earlier with little success at this point. I'm going to attempt to discuss this folliculitis again and demand his time. Another derm, whom I was going to last year basicly just blew me off when I brought up folliculitis. He opened up a book and showed me disgusting pictures of the worst case of this condition known to man, and said do you still think you have this. He was getting pissed off at all my questions and being an asshole, so I fired him as well.

In my experience with derms, they all seem to be assholes when you suggest treatments or offer our opinions. Do they expect us not to educate ourselves on our conditions? Anyways, I'm going to ask to be dropped to solodyn 45 mg to begin weening off the anti-biotics. I'd rather just dump this shit in the toilet but I've read you must ween off. I'm going to read the thread you provided and come up with something.

One question about the nizoral shampoo. Do or did you apply this to your face? I'm going to try it on my arms starting tomorrow, but am curious if you used it on your face. I will keep you posted on my appt and results. Thanks again. Tony

Well, I couldn't get in to see my regular derm, but I got an appt with his asst. who actually wasn't an complete asshole. He didn't rush me and answered alot of questions. First he said it's not uncommon anymore for adults in their 30's and 40's to develop acne for the first time, although I've read it's uncommon.

He also said what I have are cysts, and that since they all seem to be in my bearded area around the hair follicles, he wants me to use the brevoxyl wash as a shaving cream. I told that the solodyn isn't doing anything and I believe it is making it worse. He was then throwing out names of other anti-boitics, and I told him I've tried them all and no longer want to use anti-biotics, so he told me to start weening off by taking a pill every other day.

I asked about folliculitis and once again, like all the other derms he just kind of brushed it off and said it was cystic acne, and the shaving with brevoxyl and using clindamycin lotion should help.

There was a question that I didn't think of asking, which I'd like to ask those here.

I believe I have folliculitis, and I've read somewhere that not shaving and growing a beard would help. Does anyone know about this? I think I also read somewhere that a beard can make acne worse. Like I said my inflammed, red, ugly, cystic like bumps almost always seem to be in my bearded area, especially my cheeks. And amost always, there is a hair that comes out of these bumps after I pop one. I figure at worst the beard might cover up some of these cysts and calm my anxiety a bit.

I'm just so embarresed about this. I'm pit boss in a major casino and deal face to face with my staff and guests every day, and I've really had serious thoughts latley about just quitting and packing my car and driving away. I know doing so would only make my life worse, but dealing with this is so very hard, as you all know.

Sorry for such a long post, but it makes me feel a little better to talk here. Thanks in advance for everybodys replies. I'd just like to get some input about the beard idea if anyone has some info or opinions. Thanks again. Tony

I don't have the means to post pictures. My reasoning for feeling like I have folliculitis is that after shaving sometimes it looks like some of my hairs aren't coming through, almost like ingrown hairs. It's red and it sometimes just stays red and goes away, and other time they get inflammed.

I very rarely get your typical white head zit. Since Feb I've been getting these huge inflammed spots, which my derm called cysts. I have only been getting 2 or 3 at a time but they are huge, ugly, and red.

Right now I have at least 10 little bumps that look like the hair just can't break through the skin, and these eventually turn into the big inflammed one's I speak of. This is why I believe I have folliculitis as it's an infection of the follicle deep down causing the infection. Almost always after I pop it or it goes down, there is a hair that comes out.

Some of them come to a small white head after about a week and others don't. After the one come to a head and I pop it, that's when I always notice a hair. Follicultis? Ingrown hairs? I'm just lost and sick of this. Any advice for the beard?

Thanks for you help. Tony

Hmm, not too sure, for a start, read the link in my sig about folliculitis, theres every known treatment on there.

Oh, and try using head and shoulders, dunno if it's listed on there, but it works great against it and is cheap. Just use it in bath or shower, leave on for 5 minutes, and rinse off. Should help a lot!

How could u live with follicultis for 2 years? I've had mild - sometimes moderate acne for two years and follicultis for 3 weeks.

Follicultis is sooooo itchy. So itchy that it's hard to concentrate and whiteheads are painful to touch not to mind burst which is useless anyway because they just bleed and cause more infection rapidly.

Acne and Follicultis are two completely separate things, believe me, i've had both.

I really hope people dont get confused between them.

Follicultis is: SEVERLY ITCHY, PAINFUL (sometimes), HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS, as in u cannot afford to burst a whitehead or spot otherwise u'll have 3 or 4 in the same place within hours,

The whiteheads leave behind crusty scabs that lasts for days,

The whiteheads can spread even by touchin them and touching another hair-growing region of your body. (for instance i got 2 in the middle of my scalp)

I have to dry my face and neck with tissue paper. I cant use the same towel as other family members.

Bigger spots can get 3 or 4 whiteheads within them.

AND THE ITCH IS SOOOOO BAD.

ACNE is none of the above. I got a pimple on my forehead and I was almost happy to see it. Pimples look and feel totally different to the spots and whiteheads cause by folliculitis.

So I hope people are not mis-diagnosing themselves here. My doctor diagnosed me with folliculitis which he said has moved into impetigo. Both these conditions are far from acne and he has see my skin tens of times before.

I'm on 2000mg of antibiotics a day for a week . And so far it's going well, it's not going to last too long more thankfully.

Is there anyone still interested in this thread? I'm curious to know how the regimen is working for everyone whose tried it. I'm a little concerned (plus broke) to down that many supplements of zinc and fish oil.

Has anyone else had success with their folliculitis treatment?
