Red holes left after removing whiteheads and gunk

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but, every time I remove a whitehead or the like, a red pit appears where the material has been. I've tried a lot of different methods including doing extractions after a steamy shower to soften the skin but, it didn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any tips for avoiding the pits?

Yeah I know, I just hate walking around with these mini caverns on my face. At least the junk is coming out.

Same thing always happens to me. Just got done cleaning out a bunch of pores on my nose, and it always looks like hell for a few days afterwards. I can never seem to be rid of gunky pores. Manual extraction is the only way I know to clean them out, but the results are only temporary and they always seem to fill up again so I have to do it again and again. If there is a "proper" way to do this, it would be a good item to list after "Popping a pimple" under "Learn." I have the same concerns about red pores or even how good manual extractions are for the skin. I worry about permanently stretching out pores. I have 2 good-size pits on my nose from manual extractions. Actually a salon facial specialist did that, since extractions were part of the facial.

Eryka's topic is a good one. Any tips or advice would be helpful.

Well, the small red pits are still there but they do close up within about 24 hours. However what I've found works to kill redness is to put Aloe Vera Gel on top. However if a lot of oil comes out after the plug is removed, I do a clay mask first and leave it on for 30mins, rinse off and then apply Aloe Vera gel.

I used to go crazy and try to pop every whitehead

after doing that I got more redmarks and they would eventually come back for me at least

I used to do that, remove the whole whiteheads thing.. and it gave me scars on my forehead like the ones you've mentioned. Now I just refuse to remove anything at all because I think it just does more damage than anything else... I think if you just leave it there and don't touch it then it tends to heal a lot better.

Everyone should get a facial by a professional dermatologist or esthetician. They will do extractions the proper way and in about 48 hours your skin will look amazing! It is essential to clean out the pores that normal products won't budge. It goes without saying that cysts and nodules shouldn't be touched, but anything else is basically fair game. I especially find that people with closed and open comedones/non-inflammed acne especially benefit from this.
