ETS surgery - so many lawsuits & so many people hurt!

Recommended Posts

I felt it was important to share with all of you a tragedy that happened to a friend of mine so that it NEVER happens to you. My friend had a surgery called ETS surgery (Endoscopic Thoracic Surgery) - a sympathectomy - they cut or clamp the peripheral nerves that go to the arms, face and head. He did this because he saw a stupid Ad somewhere and was suffereing from Hyperhidrosis- he sweat excessively from his hands and his forehead and was very self-conscious about it. He also had acne. The surgeon he went to told him that ETS surgery would not only get rid of his sweating, but also his acne. The surgeon blatantly lied- told him that drying out the sweat glands would would clear up his acne, etc, etc. Meanwhile, his acne is worse than ever and so is the acne of a lot of people who he has spoken with that have had ETS surgery. That is the least of his problems. He is on a respirator 24/7, for asthma and some other debilitating lung problem(he was a star basketball player in high school and is 29 years old now). I met him at a center that specializes in pulmonary diseases and he NEVER had a lung problem before this surgery. He also has horrendous nerve pain called RSD, acid reflux, and he has something called compensatory sweating which everyone gets from this surgery (the Drs. lie and say it's not s bad but imagine NOT sweating on your head, face, or hands b/c the nerves were cut and instead you sweat profusely to the point of soaking up T-shirts just taking a few steps? that you can hardly catch your breath for???)

Obviously this situation is a nightmare. He has a team of lawyers behind him but is so sick he can't deal anymore. I feel hopeless. I wanted to post about it to make other people aware of the dangers of this surgery. Here are a few links below about it that my friend has shared with me. The surgery has since been banned in Sweden and more countries are following suit b/c of the amount of handicapped people and suicides. They also say this surgery cures Rosacea so beware! Unbelievable, I know. The evil some people will do for money

Yeah i had heard about this surgery when i was doing research about trying to prevent my flushing. This is an EXTREMELY risky proceedure as basicly the docs dont know what theyre doing when it comes to things as complex as our nervous system. Steer clear at all costs.

Not sure this is the right forum for this.

Actually, many of these Drs. who actually perform this surgery do know now what they are doing because they've been sued and the surgery has been banned in countries like Sweden. But they continue to do it for money. I posted it here in this forum because one of the things these doctors are saying to patients is that their acne will go away because the sweat glands are cut. These are disturbing facts, but these facts could potentially save someone here from getting this surgery.
