Scarring as a result of excess skin buildup - how common?

I ask this because I have what appears to be some scar tissue adjacent to the left side of my nose. This tissue is ever so slightly thicker and has a different complexion. It developed after years of periodic acne peppering that same region over and over. Under certain lighting, it looks like I have a crease mark associated with older age.... ugh

I think it's something that can - hopefully - be "burned" away as it seems to be a case of excess skin tissue, rather than indentations. I'm guessing I'd have to wait until after accutane treatment is finished before considering peels and other options.

In all the online literature I read, they say that raised scars are not as common. Your thoughts?

They are quite common actually - do a search on keloids on this board and you may find some answers.
