Has acne ever been cool?

I'd like to start this thread by saying that this is really not a joke.

I was just wondering whether there's ever been a period in history where acne was regarded as a rather fashionable affliction. I know it sounds silly but as a skin condition, other than looking unhygienic and just generally unattractive, it doesn't really affect your health. In Tudor times, I've heard that obesity was seen as a sign of beauty and affluence, even though it has dangerous impacts on your health, so an era where spots were a 'must-have' makes more sense.

I've thought for some time that acne is such a big problem for many because of the subliminal messaging of television. In thousands of films, shows and adverts barely any character has acne, minus the stereotypical geeks for some reason. This makes me feel that we are almost being programmed that it is wrong to have a skin condition and that we should not feel strong, confident, able if we do. Perhaps, if James Bond had spots and Tyler Durden had a speckled complexion, we'd look more favourably toward it.

So, yeah, has acne ever been cool? Are there parts of the world where it's given the thumbs-up? Is there such thing as an acne-fetish? Can psoriasis be sexy?

There is some underground fetish porn involving acne, so in a sense it is seen as 'cool' by whatever people that get off on that shit.

It sounded pretty rank, can't remember where i read it or if it was true or not, but from what i recall it was pretty sick stuff. Like some guy had Bacne and this girl was biting the cysts on his back and licking off the puss and they were just popping the shit out of their spots.

Just doesn't float my boat.

Straight Porn = Ok

Lesbian Porn = Ok

Animal Porn = Ok

Acne Porn= :snooty:

I remember watching some documentary about people that had sex with animals, some guy was fucking a Horse for a good few years and was absolutely fine, then he got a Tattoo of aforementioned Horse to show his love for it, contracted Hepatitis C, and died.

I thought it was pretty funny.

yeah i was listenin to a radio show late at night a few years ago, one womans fetish (described by her partner) was pooing into a bag, and then smearing it all over each other. apparently she used to poo and put the bags somewhere to hide, and her partner phoned up the radio show asking what to do, whether he should throw away the bags, or accept her with her fetish. I would not accept no poo fetish.

Im glad that horse man died. the tattoo thing was funny..

I think this is a definite factor. Every time I watch TV or a DVD it makes me feel like more of a freak because everybody on TV has absolutely clear skin. I had aspirations of being an actor when I was younger, before acne hit me- there's no way in hell that even if I had the confidence to do it now, I'd be hired. People, according to movies and TV, just don't get acne. Even the 'ugly' teenagers in teen movies don't have acne. I can't even remember a person with acne ever being portrayed in a positive light in any medium. I remember reading a Stephen King novel where he was describing a guy who 'still got pimples at 28' as if it made him a bad person.

The societal ignorance about acne makes us feel worse and makes other people completely unsympathetic to our problem. Worst are the people who assume that it's because we don't wash.

God, it's depressing.
