I just turned 20 years of age on February there.

Iv not had a clear skin face in about 9 years.

I am fighting a losing battle with acne.

It gets me down so much.

I was diagnosed with depression this month, was prescribed anti-depressants.

I took them all but it seemed they were making my acne worse. So I didnt bother taking anymore and couldnt be bothered or had no motivation to get a new prescription.

Its just sooo hard. Acne is hurting me inside so much. I hate myself and I hate having no confidence.

My drawer is covered in acne products....cleansers...prescriptions.....pills......oil free products. My drawer is full of these stupid anti acne products but at the same time my face is full of fucking red spots, nothing works at all!

If I have a bad spot or 2 (which is like all the time) I will avoid doing stuff. I won't go out when my acne is bad. I hate having to live like this. I wish I was just one of those people who didnt have to worry about covering the face with stuff everytime they go out. I carry a clearasil instant cover stick. Im a guy and people must think I wear makeup at times.

One thing is for sure. If my skin was clear, it wouldnt be as hard as it has been for me to smile in the past 2 years. I just can't seem to be happy when my skin is a total riot.

I hate my life :(

I'm sorry you feel this way.

Please remember that acne is on the outside and it's who we are on the inside that counts.

Try to work on how you feel about life and who you are on the inside (not acne) and you may find yourself becoming happier.

I presume since you were diagnosed with depression, you are seeing a counsellor? If not, perhaps you should?

Try not to let acne get you down so much, there is alot of support here at Acne.Org.

Don't stop taking depression medication because it seems like they're aggravating your acne. Like wanabeacnefree said, acne is an external issue. Your mental health is much more important.

So I didnt bother taking anymore and couldnt be bothered or had no motivation to get a new prescription.

Hey man hang in there...things look up...for now just try and focus on what's inside of you...do something that makes you happy whether it be working out, playing video games, cooking, eating, watching lots of porn, trading pokemon cards :D..haha whatever works for you man.

I know everyone says don't let it get to you but it does, just admit to yourself that it does bother you and that you're going to solve this shit, it's a battle that hasn't ended yet. Just keep trying new shit and find what works for you!

Hang in there buddy!!!!

I'm going to go along with the first response and ask the same question... have you considered Accutane? I'm only almost 17 years old but I've had really bad acne since the beginning of junior high. And towards the beginning of this year (my junior year in high school), it started getting extremely worse. I tried probably everythingfor my face, and I still have a TON of old face washes, boxes of Proactive, creams and other pill medications that never worked for me. My older brother was prescribed to Accutane and it worked amazingly for him, and his acne was very serious, so I decided to follow in his footsteps. I'm on my 4th month and so far it's been great, and looking to get even better in the next couple months, as well! Just thinking about my end results has boosted my confidence tremendously!

If you want, click the link below and check out my Accutane progress album! And good luck with everything, just hang in there. ;)

aw haha.. well thank you! :D

if you still haven't heard back... i would just probably go out on your own and try to find a good dermatologist. maybe you can search online or something to try to find a good derm near where you live? if not, just call back your doctors office and tell them that you need them to refer you as soon as possible, because the longer you wait to try and help the acne situation, the more chance there is of scarring. good luck!

Hey, I know exactly how you feel. I actually started my own blog because I couldn't type out my story and feelings fast enough and felt as though I was disappointing people with small responses. Check it out if you want. I'm always interested to see if people feel the same way as me.

Hi BazM! The posters above have given overall great advice. I'd also like to encourage you strongly to go get that anti-depressant filled and take it continuously. Unfortunately, with depression (just as with acne), all medications take time to work and you won't feel an immediate improvement in your mood. It does take time, usually at the VERY LEAST, one whole month of compliant (no skipping) dosing.

If you do not notice ANY improvement in your mood from that month of medication, please call your doctor ASAP to get a different medication. Just as with acne medications, different people respond differently to different anti-depressants. Each person's chemical soup of emotions and physical status is unique in un-researched ways so each person has to find out what may work for himself or herself with the help of a doctor who is qualified to treat depression.

Counseling (particularly cognitive behavioral) is an excellent adjunct to medication and will help you cope, learn, grow and become the real you. Depression is every bit as real an illness as hypertension or diabetes and ALL illnesses do have some component of your will and positive thinking for deriving a positive outlook.

When you give yourself negative self-talk, STOP it and think of something you do well. Lose yourself in the moment, doing something you like to do (provided it's not illegal, please).

Please know that good people, intelligent people, nice people, mature people, do not judge you by your acne. The acne does not change their basic perception of 'you'. But depression can, because depression changes 'you'...so get it treated and get you well.

Yeh im taking steps to try improve the general me. Try to improve my confidence and just find total happiness.

I am also in braces at the moment, which I will have had on for 2 years next month. One of my front tooth stuck out too much so I decided to get braces to improve my smile. This has also contributed to my depression, but I know that getting the braces was the right thing....the right thing is also the hardest thing.

Also trying to imrpove myself by going to the gym. Been going about 6 months so far, pretty consistent. And chilling out in the sauna/steam room after it to clean my face but doesnt seem to really help my acne, just makes my skin feel clean/smother.

I just feel like the real me has dissapeared, the old me, the real me is being hidden and its all these things doing it to me. I want to me be again. I do go out socialising, go out to clubs and pubs but I can't seem to really enjoy it all the way I used to enjoy things :(

Just which I could fast forward about 5 months.

Thanks Wynne, yep I have read his thread, really does broadcast a good attitude towards the whole experience.

bazm... your posts make me so sad :(

i completelyyy understand how you feel... i'm sure all of us do - not wanting to go out when my skin is bad is a biggie for me - i get very panicky & uncomfortable in social situations when my skin isn't good.

and! i had braces too in high school & my teeth were SO screwed up for awhile- but when you get them off your teeth will look fabulous. you'll also start to feel better once you talk to a dermatologist - you WILL find something that will work! hang in there!

antidepressants aren't for everyone.

what treatments have you tried, or want to try?

i can really understand how you feel, i'm more worried about your depression then your acne. quite often people's acne wil clear up but the depression will not. do the things you enjoy, go out on a limb and enjoy your life, because if you hide away like i did for my teenage years you;ll realise that the good years of your life were wasted for... nothing.

polka.

Whether you believe it or not, I was where you are now. I'm not sure how old you are, but there IS something that WILL clear your pimples. I'm 22 and had been dealing with zits for almost 10 years. It wasn't until I was 20, that I sought a derm that cleared MOST of my acne with duac and tarozac along with an anti-biotic.

I've also dealt with depression for as long as I can fucking remember. Anti-depressants NEVER did it for me, but they might for you as hypocritical as that may sound. As someone else previously stated, they aren't for everyone. You just have to find WHAT makes you happy, and focus in on it. For me, it is music and playing guitars.

For me, I helped my own depression. I can't really explain it, but I just did. Kinda just got over it, maybe it was pretending to be happy until I eventually was. That, and lots of alcohol.

At this time, I get some zits occasionally around my mouth and thats it, but my face is still FILLED with scars from having it. I really hope you don't have the same end result, but trust me scars are better than constant active zits. They hurt a shit load less!
