How do you know if you have scars?

Recommended Posts

Dumb question I know. I've had acne for...well, forever. Right now my skin feels extremely smooth when I run my hand over it; no raised bumps or anything (just one pustule!)

However, my cheeks are covered in red spots. From far away it looks like acne; just like pimples. Up close it looks like faded red marks and feels smooth.

Do these sound like scars? I've had them for MONTHS.

My best indicator is always pain. For some reason, I can always tell when acne is active just based on how it feels (not with my hand but just to my body). Acne has always been slightly related to pain to me. That and appearance. Redness does fade.

The red marks are hyperpigmentation which fade over time and can be disguised with concealers. Scars are depressions in the skin or scar formation raised above the skin, both leaving an uneven texture. Check out the threads for hyperpigmentation and red marks.
