Pausing Accutane Treatment

Hey, I have been on accutane for the past 2 months with great sucess, only, last week when I was due for a checkup with my derm, I had to go away and I subsequently missed my appointment. Before I left I rang them to arrange a new one, and they said they would send my appointment throught the post. I thought the appointmet would only be set back a week or two, but they have set it back a whole 2 months! 8-[ I only have about 3 days supply of the medicine left before I run out, and with no available appointment, I doubt that I would be able to get a repeat prescription, so I'll be stuck with no treatment for a couple of months. So, my question is this: will I just be able to resume the treatment again in a couple of months and keep making progress? Will I have to start the course all over again? Or should I persist in trying to get an earlier appointment/prescription and keep going with the course? ](*,)

I don't think you derm would have a prob renewing the perscription over the phone... just explain the situation, and I am sure things will be work out fine.

You'll be able to carry on your course after the gap, So i wouldnt worry about that.

I say this because i stopped taking mine over the christmas period (Approx 3wks) Then started again.

I'd persist in tryin to aviod a gap tho.... Breaks the process and isn't wise to just 'stop' taking it.... As i found out.

I would get that prescription renewed ASAP. Accutane is a powerful drug that should be taken exactly as directed. Its not like stopping an anitibiotic or something mild like that. Stopping the treatment midway could have some serious adverse effects. You dont want to cut off of the medication just as it has started to work. Your acne could come back worse than before and that is the last thing you want.

Talk to your doctor over the phone (they don't charge for that) or better yet go to the office in person and get a new prescription. You dont need an appointment for that.

If your derm knows your accutane rx is up, they won't make you wait months for your checkup. You're supposed to check up once a month till your treatment is over. You should ask to speak with your derm directly, or if you've done that, ask why they're making you wait so long.

What I do with my derm is call him up so he can fill out my prescription for me. Then I just talk to the receptionist to get my slip.

like they said, you can geta refill/renewal w/out the appointment. if by chance it isn't refillable automatically, the pharmacist should forward the request to the doctor to give the authorization.

also next time remember to make your appointment for the following month before you leave the office.

yeah try to set the appointment up for earlier. explain to the receptionist that youre on accutane and dont want a gap in the treatment. If she doesnt help you, ask to speak to the doctor.
