I want to make a donation towards acne research

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'll start of by telling a little bit about myself. I am a 21 year old entrepreneur currently residing in San Jose, California. My company has recently been acquired by a large corporation (that's about all the details I can give out due to legalities), and I would like to put some of that money towards something meaningful.

As a long time acne sufferer (actually I am still currently suffering but am on accutane, which seems to be helping slightly, fingers crossed), I want to make a substantial donation to acne research. However, I am not very informed or up to date on the organizations that are taking donations, or if there are even any that are making breakthroughs.

Please let me know your thoughts,

Take care.

^ My suspicions as well, unfortunately - which is why I made this post.

why dont you donate it to something really really important? I mean, acne is bad, dont get me wrong, but its something people *can* outgrow. Not to be selfish, but i know my girlfriend suffers from diabetes as well as other things, and it makes me realize how a few bumps on my face is NOTHING. I would just suggest if you have the money, donate it to something where people suffer, and REALLY suffer. Diabetes, although being mild compared to some, is still a better thing to try to solve than acne. After all, acne doesnt kill you...

Donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital instead. Those poor kids need it more than us acne sufferers.

PS: congrats on your success!

I think you should make an informative commercial with the money... Help get rid of some of the ignorance about acne!

ACNE.org maybe is one of the best places to invest the money.

Now, how it would benefit to research...that's a problem that could be discuss in this forum...diplomatically.

If I was a venture capitalist/entrepreneur I wouldn't invest in research,

Leave it to the boffins and eggheads to figure out!

I'm certain they have something in the pipeline.

Or a gigantic pharmaceutical Co will reap the benefit of an acne cure which they will deploy worldwide.

Acne is bad but children die of curable diseases like malaria in developing countries every day!, only costs a couple of $'s for each child to be immunized.

Or you could donate money to the people in Darfur and Kenya who have been displaced and dont even have basic shelter , clean water or medicine.

People with SEVERE acne suffer pretty badly. And as far as "outgrowing" there are plenty of users on this board who are in their 30's and 40's with severe acne. And in case they do "outgrow" it they are left with horrible scars for the rest of their life.

Acne may not be as "bad" or harmful for your body physically, but emotionally and psychologically it is one of the worst illnesses in the word.

Acne is well known to cause severe depression, which CAN kill you. A member of this very forum committed suicide.
