I think I've found a "cure"

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm going to make this short and sweet because I'm starving and need to make diner. After years of having acne on and off (the most severe started about a year ago) I came across something that finally worked. I've tried most every antibiotic and topical, even accutane, all to no avail.

After reading many posts i realized that my acne was not caused by clogged pores...i honestly don't think any acne is, but that's besides the point. My acne was related to my body not disposing of toxins..whatever those toxins may be. At first i thought i was sensitive to sugars and carbs because when i would eat them i would break out the next day horribly and get a bad skin tone about an hour after eating them.

Now these foods are in no way good for your acne but the trick is to get them out pronto after indulging in lots of them. On an average day I'd have 1 BM (bowel movement). That's when i was having terrible skin. Now that I've been taking a liquid acidophilus (1.5 tablespoons 3 time a day, preferably before or after each big meal), I've been having 2-3 BM's a day. At one point a few months ago I was taking acidophilus because i thought i had a yeast infection, i was however also taking many other things. When my skin started to clear i contributed it to the fish oil i had started so when i ran out of acidophilus i didn't bother getting more. My skin started to decline and i again got frustrated and searched for new alternatives. So after reading someone elses post on here i remembered that when my skin had been the clearest i had in fact been taking acidophilus.

This isn't so much a cure as a means of maintaining a healthy body and healthy skin. Maintaining is the key word, you must continue to use this stuff. I have an extremely fast metabolism and am always eating because i'm always hungry. I do still keep my carb and sugar intake to a minimum because i just get less acne that way.

I don't have time to re-read this for errors so sorry if it's written badly. I know not all acne is caused by your body not getting rid of the bad stuff but in my case and I'm sure many other's cases it is.

Either way, please if you haven't tried this go out to your local healthfood store and get the liquid acidophilus (around 10 USD). It should contain about 20 billion cells per 2 Tablespoons.

Once again, take it after every large meal and try to keep your binge eating to a minimal, that is, don't eat constantly during the day. And go #2 before bed if possible! Hope this helps.

I agree completely! I took the capsule form, and that's when my skin was at its clearest. I stopped taking it because I wasn't sure if its safe to take for long periods of time? A health food specialist told me it was, but I'm not completely sure...I don't want my body to become depending on something for so long ya know? But it makes sense that acidophilus would help, because a good colon=good skin. Plus a lot of ppl end up killing the good bacti when they take antibiotics for acne, so it's good to replenish that.

Recently, I've switched to all organic skin care. I used to use proactiv, but all that seemed to do was make my skin red and dry. I mean, it controlled my breakouts but it didnt seem to make my skin appear better. I think with acne, you need to cleanse well internally and externally. I'm really tempted to use benzyl peroxide sometimes, but I try not to. It's highly carcinogenic and while it may seem to control acne, it does nothing to heal your skin. Tea tree oil is better, but the only downfall is it makes it all come out first. I'm at that stage! But still, overall its better to go natural with the skin care.

Well I wish you continued success with the acidophilus! I'll try the liquid form next time, I wonder which of the 2 methods is more effective...

I bought this bottle of probiotics, and everytime I have done that, I forget to take them! How can I make sure I remember? I always forget because all my other supplements are on top of the fridge, and the probiotic is the only one that has to be refrigerated so it's separate from them all. Rrr...I know I really should take them though.

I had a question about capsule probiotics. Do I need to mix them with something and let it warm up before eating it, or can I just swallow the capsules whole and expect them to be fine? Would it be "better" if they were premixed with something first? You know, to get them out of the dormant stage, and into the proliferating stage?

I'd suggest buying the liquid stuff first to see if it helps you, then when you run out go to the capsules and see if they maintain your results. I personally tried the pill version and it didn't work for me. There's something like 2 billion in each pill as opposed to the 20 billion the liquid offers.

How exactly does a probiotic work? Does it make your digestion better? And do you know if long term use is bad? Is the effect permanent?

How do you know if you're someone who should take probiotics? I've taken

antibiotics but I never had side effects so I thought I was okay. And are they

expensive?

Well I'm not sure if there is a way to tell if you "definately" need probiotics but I was always under the impression if you took antibiotics you would need to replenish the good bacteria. I didn't have any "side effects " per say but what happened to me was I took so many antibiotics for so long I have a candida overgrowth. When the good bacteria is killed off the yeast grows to an unbalanced amount,. Now I have to take herbs to kill off the yeast and replenish the good bacteria, also a very strict diet.Nothing to "feed" the yeast, sugar, wheat, ect..

I've never heard of liquid acidophilus before... What brand is it that you're taking?

Well, the last antibiotic I took was around 3 years ago. I suppose what I

meant was, will anything bad happen? Like, if you don't NEED them really

but you take 'em just to see?

Its "good bacteria" for your digestive tract, primarily the colon I think. If you have taken antibiotics in the past it 's a good idea to take some probiotics. I don't know which one to recommend I get mine from a nutritionist. No long term effects, in fact she said I will need to take a lower dose than I on now , for ever! Not sure about the effect, I would say you wold have to eat verrry good to not ever need them again. And any time you take antibiotics you will need some porbiotics again to replenish the "good" bacteria that was just killed. Antibiotics don't know the difference between good and bad.

I will check the brand in a little bit...I'm kinda not dressed right now and my mom is downstairs. It's true that they're good to take if you've been on antibiotics but that's not the only time they are helpful. What they do for me personally is they just regulate my BM's (bowel movements). It's not addicting and they cost around 10 USD. Constipation is a leading attributer to acne in my opinion. I was never constipated but i was just going like once a day. Even if you're not having problems going I'd still recommend the stuff, I don't know all the details of what going on in your body but I do know that most absorption takes place in your small intestines. Therefore providing healthy and clean intestinal track would undoubtedly help not only your skin but your over all health a great deal.

I personally go through a bottle a week..that's a little over $40 a month. Luckily my mom is very supportive of me so she buys it (I'm 18 btw 130lb. 5'10") I get the stuff from feel rite which is generally an overpriced store so I'd reccomend shopping around. My guess is that increasing average BM's is just a side affect of the main effects of the stuff. The goal here is to constantly be maintaining a clean environment in your body.

Whoever tries this remember to get the liquid stuff and also to take it at least twice a day after large meals (preferably 3 times).

Good luck everyone, let me know how your results are.

Oh, and one more thing...the oiliness on my face has greatly reduced. I get less black heads now for some reason. not sure what i can contribute that to but I'm happy with the results thus far.

when I was about 17 or 18, I bought some super cheap acidophilus from safeway for $5, and that increased BMs too, I was extremely regular on that stuff, but I don't remember it doing anything for my skin though.

I'm of course guessing here, but it seems that the amount and duration you should take probiotics depends on the severity of your condition(s). I've not only dealt with acne, but also chronic sinusitis (I can't even remember a time when both nostrils were completely clear), dandruff, constipation (not going for like 2-3 days at a time), etc.

I've been able to lessen my symptoms by drinking kefir daily and it seems to have helped most of my conditions as a whole, but it's still too early I guess so I'm in it for the long haul to see where this might go. I believe candida may be the reason that those who go on strict meat/fat diets can experience significant results, they're basically "starving" the yeast/fungus by restricting their preferred food, "sugar/carbs".
