Drinking water / digestion

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I was just looking up how long food stays in your stomach link. It said 6-8 hours. And I've read about people on these boards who don't drink when eating because this dilutes stomach acid, I've been doing this myself for 2-3 weeks now.

How long before and after a meal do you avoid drinking?

I don't consciously avoid it or time it but on average I'd probably say half hour before and half hour after I won't be "drinking" water. No harm in sips here and there...

6-8 hours is not accurate. My anatomy textbook states the following: "Within 2-4 hours after eating a meal, the stomach has emptied its contents into the duodenum." To be sure, the duodenum is the first part of the small intestine. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestion under "Phases of human digestion" and "Gastric phase") and other sources will corroborate. Those Q&A sites can be unreliable.

Yeah, I think 6-8 hours sounded ridiculously much. I think it depends on what and how much you eat too. Like I read about a pro bodybuilder who ate 1 time a day. It's all about what and how much you eat, I usually get hungry 2-3 hours after eating.
