long and the short of it is that mac is just like anything else.... it causes problems for some, and no problems for others. it's all trial and error. i personally love mac products. i used to use studio fix fluid with no problems, but switched to mineral make-up because i like the idea of mineral foundation better. i always use makeupalley.com whenever i'm thinking about trying a new product - it's a good resource.

ya guess thats truth...I actually just bought a whole set of bare minerals but I just dont get the same coverage and look like I do with the studio fix. do u know if the mineral makeup is easier on acne??

I was petrified when I first started using MAC because I'd heard horror stories of it breaking people out. But when I actually tried it, it was fine. I adore the coverage [i'm currently using Studio Fix liquid foundation and Studio Finish Concealer]

MAC gives me the confidence to go out into the world!

I have a couple of MAC blushes and used them for months and I haven't broken out yet. So far so good. I don't like their powder foundations because it doesn't give me the coverage I want and I don't use liquid foundation.

Studio fix is perfect for people prone to acne, atleast in my opinion! The only bad thing about it was that it gave me the plastic doll look! Too much coverage lol!

I've had problems with MAC's concealer. I don't remember the name, but it was a creme concealer in a pot. It really exacerbated my acne at the time. I used it for a month and my skin was terrible. I was breaking out anyway, but it seemed to make the pimples worse.

Their blushes give me no problem, but I also don't break out much on my cheeks anyway.

Different skin reacts differently to makeup, so it may be fine for some & not for others. Generally, oil free makeup may be the way to go until you get your skin under control and can more accurately assess what causes breakouts and what doesn't. Not all "oil-free" means it won't clog pores, and not all oil is "bad", but I think it's a place to start.

You can definitely get great coverage with mineral makeup too. Like all makeup, it varies a lot by brand, and application can be key to getting the best results. Not all mineral makeup is created equal.

is MAC considered an OIL FREE makeup??? I looked at my bottle of foundation but it doesnt say anything on it other than what its called.

I got huge cysts from using MAC studio fix. I use most of their products except their foundations.

some mac foundations are oil-free, others aren't. for example, studio fix fluid is oil-free, studio fix powder is not.

i know we're not talking about mac's skincare line in this thread, but since it's about mac, i wanted to take the opportunity to say how impressed i am with their skincare products. i've been using them faithfully for almost a year now, and i think this is the first time i can say i've been consistently happy with any skincare product i've use.

i use the cleanse off oil, cremewash, studio moisture cream, strobe cream, and fast response eye cream.

if you have acne prone skin then you should avoid MAC. The reason i am saying this is because their makeup contains mineral oil which can clog your pores. This will prevent our skin from being able to breath and cause further breakouts. MAC has a lot of colors and choices when it comes to their products but if you really want to get rid of your acne one of the steps is to check the ingredients label on the products you are using. Try CLINIQUE instead of MAC as they do not use mineral oil or any other skin irritating chemicals in their makeup. use oil-free, non comedogenic, fragrance free products to help in the process of fighting acne.

Trust me i have been there and done that. I stopped using MAC a long time ago and switched to clinique. my skin has improved a lot.

i know i'm late to contribute to this thread but from my experience MAC powders break me out. granted i've never tried the foundations but the loose and pressed powders, plus their mineralized skinfinish naturals have given me two or three cysts about two weeks after starting to use them. and i'm on accutane and have even had a single blackhead in months and as soon as i cease using them my skin goes back to normal. so in the end yes MAC skin products do break me out.

I believe that whether a makeup brand is good for your skin or not depends on your own skin. There is no one brand that's good for everybody, it's all a matter of trial and error.

I've heard people who complain that Clinique break them out, and I have to say I experienced this too. I went out one night with Clinique Perfectly Real foundation, and when I washed it off, my pimples look much more red and angry than before, and on top of that I got a few lovely new pimples! Clinique's marketing image is that it's good for the skin, but that's all it is: image. The products, you'll have to try for yourself, unfortunately. I have been using MAC Studio Finish concealer for months now and it doesn't aggravate my skin conditions.

You needn't worry about oil-free or not or what brand your makeup is. If it works, it works.

It depends on the product. MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation and Concealer are water based, gel foundations and they are noncomedogenic. MAC Mineralized Skin Finishes contain isopropyl palmitate with is very comedogenic.

I've been searching for non-acnegenic makeup products and so far I've found

MAC: studio finish concealer spf 30 (which i personally use and love)

Estee Lauder: Double Wear stay in place make-up(foundation which i'm gonna go out and buy tomorrow)

Prescriptives makeup: Photocrome compact makeup and Flawless skin powder

Covergirl: Clean pressed powder

I'm gonna keep looking...

the acne specialist that i saw gave me a list of ok'ed cosmetics and MAC tended to figure highly on the list. i had already been using MAC concealer and he said that it was ok to continue using.

These were the recommended foundations:

Marcelle

Cover f/x

Almay

Mac

Toleriane Corrective Fluid Foundation

Pressed Powders:

Marcelle Sheer

Mac Cover F/X Setting Powder

Almay Clear Complexion pressed Powder

~any loose powder is ok~

Blush

MAC Cover F/X Bronzer

i think though, that as long as it says non-comedogenic, then you're ok. if you're having reactions to products that assert this, there may be other ingredients that are irritating your skin.

i don't know if the guy is a quack yet, only seen him once, but my skin has been behaving better since i started following his advice.

Everyones skin is different. Ever since I stopped using the clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel, my skin has improved. It apparently has comedogenic ingredients in it. I am acne prone and I have extremely sensitive skin

Is your skin sensitive? If it is I recommend you dont use any products on your face which contain fragrance.
